NEW DELHI: There was good news on Saturday for Kings XI pacer
Parvinder Awana, whose non-selection in the India A squad - in spite of solid performances in the
IPL and on the domestic scene - had created some controversy.
As destiny would have it, the Delhi paceman has now booked a berth in the Caribbean-bound team, replacing RP Singh, who was ruled out on Saturday with a knee injury.
"I knew I had a chance after a strong domestic season. I was mentally ready because injuries to fast bowlers are never too far away after a gruelling season," the 25-year-old Delhi seamer told TOI, adding: "No doubt IPL has given me recognition but I feel that my performances in the domestic cricket circuit played a bigger role."
Awana added: "I felt my hard work had gone unnoticed but (Kings XI skipper)
Adam Gilchrist, bowling coach Joe Dawes and Vikram Rathore motivated me. They told me I'm a strong bowler and I'll be surely considered soon. Delhi selectors, too, had called me up."
Did IPL teach him how to become a better bowler?
"Joe Dawes has taught me to plan my spells. The senior players have also helped me to keep my head after getting hit. I feel I've improved on my bouncers as well," said the medium-pacer.
His Delhi coach
Sanjeev Sharma said: "I had told him to stay fit and his turn would come for India A as there was always the chance of a fast bowler breaking down.
Given the number of overs he has put in right through the season, Awana has done exceptionally well to keep himself fit."
