WNBA S*x Toy Incident: Complete timeline from first bizarre throw to recent arrest
WNBA games are facing a weird kind of trouble with an unprecedented rise in cases of s*x toys being hurled onto the court. The most recent incident happened on August 5 during the New York Liberty vs. Dallas Wings game. The thrown toy allegedly hit a 12-year-old girl, leading to the arrest of the accused.
The culprit, as per the New York Police, is an Ohio man, a father of six, with a clean record, who reportedly carried the toy to the game. His lawyer, however, has denied the allegation that anyone got hit by the hurled toy. Here is the complete timeline of the s*x toy hurling incidents, which have caused a stir in the WNBA world.
According to an ESPN report dated August 8, the first incident of hurling a s*xually explicit object occurred on July 29. A cryptocurrency group took responsibility for the incident. One of the members of the community admitted that seeking attention and bolstering the online traction of the crypto meme coin were the motives behind the act.
He said, “It was more or less like an opportunistic approach to, you know, what is already trending. Where is there already controversy, and how do we intercept some of that attention?”
Following this, another incident occured on August 1. It led to the arrest of a 23-year-old man, Delbert Carver.
Carver was booked for disorderly conduct, public indecency, criminal trespassing, and indecent exposure.
It was one of the series of similar incidents that took place in previous WNBA games. The case caused an uproar because of the NSFW toy making contact with a female fan.
WNBA star Sophie Cunningham nearly escaped the throw in the August 5 incident. It was the third incident of such kind. The incident took place during the game between the Indiana Fever and the Los Angeles Sparks. The Sparks coach condemned the bizarre act and called it a ‘an issue of players’ security.’
Burgess’ lawyer spoke to the reporters and shared that he intends to fight these charges vigorously. He called the charges ‘embellished and exaggerated.’
The accused Charles Burgess surrendered to the New York Police on Thursday, August 21. He came back to the city from his hometown and was accompanied by his lawyer. In an email sent by Burgess’ lawyer, Paul D'Emilia, to the Associated Press, it was stated that Burgess was released, and the next court date is due in December.
Burgess did not speak to Associated Press or any media personnel.
A total of four arrests have been made so far in connection with the toy-hurling incidents. The WNBA has announced one-year ban and issued warnings of prosecution to the offenders.
