What led to Dillon Brooks’ arrest? Concerning late-night incident involving Phoenix Suns forward raises questions
According to authorities, Phoenix Suns forward Dillon Brooks was taken into custody early on Friday morning in Scottsdale, Arizona, on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Brooks was brought into jail in the early morning hours of Friday in Scottsdale. At around two in the morning, the Phoenix Suns guard was taken into custody for driving while intoxicated.
Due to a fractured left hand that required surgery, Brooks has not been able to play since February 21. As he recovers, it is now anticipated that he won't be able to play until at least late March. Since July 8, 2026, Dillion Brooks has been a frequent feature for Houston Rockets in the NBA, after moving on from his first team Memphis Grizzlies after his contract ended.
At around one in the morning, police stopped a car in Scottsdale. Following an investigation, Brooks was arrested and subsequently taken to jail. After completing the booking process, the 30-year-old was freed at approximately 3:30 a.m.
The Phoenix Suns released a statement regarding veteran forward Dillon Brooks, who was detained in Scottsdale on Friday, March 6, on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
“We are aware of the situation involving Dillon Brooks and are gathering more information. We have no further comment at this time.”
TMZ Sports claims that prior to his release, Brooks was "respectful and cooperative." Soon after Brooks was freed from prison, a mugshot of him was also issued. According to a police official who spoke to Fox News Digital:
"Brooks was transported to the Scottsdale City jail and released after the booking process was complete, around 3:30 a.m..”
Brooks has always claimed he is not seeking to be the “hero” of the NBA and is content playing the villain role on the floor. He once stated,
“Everyone can’t be the hero. I’d rather be what was chosen for me.”
Brooks is committed to developing his financial future off the court through contracts and investments, despite his tough enforcer role in games. Only a few hours had passed since the Suns' 105-103 loss to the Chicago Bulls at home on Thursday.
The star's four-year contract with Houston is worth an incredible $86 million, with every dollar guaranteed regardless of how well he performs. The Houston Rockets paid Brooks around $22,627,671 during the 2023–24 NBA season. His estimated compensation for the 2024–2025 season is around $22,255,493.
Brooks, meanwhile, has been out for the past few weeks while he heals from a fractured hand. In just seven minutes during his most recent game on February 21, he scored five points and pulled down three rebounds against the Orlando Magic.
Brooks played for the Houston Rockets and the Memphis Grizzlies before joining the Suns in 2025. The Suns (35-27) defeated the Chicago Bulls, 105-103, on March 5 at Mortgage Matchup Center to begin a three-game homestand.
Due to his injury, Brooks wore a black cast to the game. Brooks' injured hand will be reassessed in four to six weeks, the Suns stated on February 24.
