The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly eyeing a potential move for
Philadelphia 76ers’ shooting guard Quentin Grimes in the upcoming free agency. As the Lakers aim to bolster their roster around stars Luka Doncic and
LeBron James, Grimes has emerged as a target to address the team’s need for depth and two-way versatility.
The
Los Angeles Lakers, currently 41-25, are positioned for a playoff push but lack the necessary depth to seriously contend for an NBA Finals appearance. General manager Rob Pelinka is expected to prioritize adding players who can complement the ball-dominant styles of
Luka Doncic and
LeBron James while contributing on both ends of the floor. Quentin Grimes, a 24-year-old guard, fits the bill.
Since joining the 76ers via trade, Grimes has proven his worth, particularly in a standout performance against the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday night. He dropped a team-high 28 points and dished out six assists, showcasing his scoring ability and playmaking. This season, Grimes is averaging 12.7 points per game and shooting 38.8% from beyond the arc. His tenacious on-ball defense also makes him an attractive option for Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick.

A former No. 25 overall pick in the 2021 NBA draft, Quentin Grimes has revitalized his career in Philadelphia after stints with the New York Knicks and Dallas Mavericks.
His improved play has likely positioned him as a sought-after free agent this summer. The Lakers, however, could make a strong push to secure his services.
“Grimes is now averaging 12.7 points per game this year and is shooting 38.8 percent from three,” noted
Colin Keane of the Sporting News.
“He provides tenacious on-ball defense that Lakers head coach JJ Redick would love.”While Quentin Grimes is expected to draw significant interest in restricted free agency, the Los Angeles Lakers may prioritize him as a key addition to their rotation. The challenge for Pelinka will be navigating the market to ensure the asking price doesn’t escalate beyond their budget.
