Luka Dončić arrived in Washington with a sore left ankle and a questionable tag next to his name. By halftime, the Los Angeles Lakers superstar had removed any doubt about his condition. He turned the opening half into a one-man showcase that tilted the game early and left the Washington Wizards chasing shadows. With the Lakers cruising to a 77-48 halftime lead, Dončić had already authored one of the most dominant halves of the season. In fewer than 20 minutes on the floor, he controlled every part of the game. Scoring came easily and rebounds fell into his hands as the Wizards struggled to slow his rhythm.

Luka Dončić records unreal first-half triple-double

Luka Dončić finished the first half with 26 points, 11 assists, and 10 rebounds in 19 minutes. The pace of his production placed him alone in league history since the 1996-97 season. He became the only player to post a 25-point triple-double by halftime, and he has now done it twice. Along the way, he also moved past Giannis Antetokounmpo for the most points scored in the NBA during the 2020s.
The Wizards saw the tone early. Dončić scored 11 of the Lakers’ first 20 points and assisted on two Deandre Ayton baskets. He closed the first quarter with 17 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists. He was confident when he posed after throwing a lob to Jaxson Hayes before the dunk was finished, then capped the half by banking in a three-pointer.
With 24 minutes still to play, Dončić was positioned to add more to an already historic night. The Wizards had no answers, and the Lakers fed off his command of the game.

Luka Dončić moves up on Kia MVP Ladder

Dončić’s surge has lifted him to No. 2 on the Kia MVP Ladder, climbing from last week’s No. 3 spot. His rise comes as Nikola Jokić faces a narrow margin with the league’s 65-game eligibility rule following a knee injury.Dončić’s case continues to strengthen. He became the fastest player in Lakers history to reach 2,000 points, and also the quickest to reach 2,000 points with 500 rebounds and 500 assists, all within his first 65 games with the franchise. He is leading the league in scoring, ranks third in assists, and remains one of the strongest rebounding guards in the NBA.Dončić is currently averaging 33.6 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 7.7 assists per game.
