Minnesota is shaken after a fatal shooting involving U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents claimed the lives of Alex Pretti and Renée Good (per Yahoo Sports). As the impact spread beyond the Twin Cities, voices from across the sports world stepped forward to address the tragedy. Knicks star Karl-Anthony Towns shared his honest thoughts and prayers for the victims.
The tragedy reached the NBA calendar as well. During the game between the Golden State Warriors and Minnesota Timberwolves, there was a moment of silence held to honor Pretti as he was shown on the Jumbotron.

Karl-Anthony Towns, who spent nine seasons with the Timberwolves, addressed the shooting directly in a public statement on X. His message focused on loss, responsibility, and unity.
“What is happening in the Twin Cities and the Great North Star State is heartbreaking to witness. These events have cost lives and shaken families — and we must call for accountability, transparency, and protections for all people. This moment demands that we reflect honestly on what our values truly are. My thoughts, prayers, and deepest condolences are with the families of Renée Good and Alex Pretti,” Towns wrote on X.
He added, “I stand with the people of Minnesota.”
His statement came ahead of the Timberwolves’ rescheduled game, which included a moment of silence for Pretti. Head coach Chris Finchrevealed that the organization was “heartbroken for what we are having to witness and endure and watch.”
NBA and WNBA stars react to devastating shooting in Minnesota
The response extended well beyond one team. Angel Reese posted, “Praying for our country🥺🙏🏽.” Breanna Stewart appeared before an Unrivaled game holding an “Abolish ICE” sign.
Tyrese Haliburton referred to Pretti’s death as a murder. Warriors coach Steve Kerr said, “In times like these, you have to lean on values and who you are and who you want to be — either as an individual or as a country.”
The National Basketball Players Association released a detailed statement supporting players who spoke out and expressing solidarity with Minnesota communities. It defended freedom of speech and offered condolences to the families of Pretti and Good.
Minnesota shooting sparks reactions accross sports
Organizations across Minnesota also responded. Executives from the Timberwolves, Lynx, Vikings, Wild, United FC, and others issued a joint statement calling for de-escalation and cooperation among leaders at every level of government.
Outside of sports, tributes continued. The American Nurses Association president told the BBC the organization was “deeply saddened” by Pretti’s death. The University of Minnesota, where he graduated, described the loss as a “deeply painful time for our community” and urged care, understanding, and healing.
