NAGPUR: Jyoti Chauhan led the show of city athletes with a silver medal as 4 others claimed a bronze each on the concluding day of the 59th national schools' athletics competition at the Birsa Munda Stadium in Ranchi, Jharkhand, on Sunday.
Jyoti clocked 10.46:12 minutes to bring home the silver medal in the 3-km cross country race in the U-19 category.
Nagraj Khursane continued his excellent run with a bronze medal in the 5-km cross country for U-19 men. The Krida Prabodhini athlete finished the race in 15.06 minutes.
Upcoming runners from Pundit Bachharaj Vyas Vidyalaya - Sayali Waghmare and Mansi Uikey - too made their presence felt in the school nationals.
Running in the U-19 category for the second successive time, Sayali claimed the podium finish in the 800m race to retain the bronze that she won last year in the same race in Uttar Pradesh.
The talented teenager also helped Maharashtra retain the same position in the 4x400m relay race. While Sayali was impressive in the U-19 category, city's prodigy Mansi made her presence felt in the 600m race in the U-14 section.
In the 800m run for U-19 girls, Sayali bettered her last year's timing of 2.17 minutes by a second and finish the race in 2.15:98 minutes for her first bronze medal in the Ranchi nationals. Thereafter, she helped Maharashtra finish third in the 4x400m relay race.
In the 600m run for U-14 girls, Mansi Uikey clocked 1.44:56 minutes to bring home the bronze medal. In addition, in the 800m run for U-17 athletes Revati Kore stood 5th with a timing of 2.20 minutes.
