MLB insider provides an important update on Mookie Betts’ replacement for Tokyo opening day

The buzz around the Dodgers’ shortstop Mookie Betts missing out on the opening day game against the Chicago Cubs due to an illness has taken over the MLB world. Reportedly, Betts experienced flu-like symptoms after the Dodgers’ final day game in Arizona. Recently, an MLB insider spoke about the most appropriate replacement for Betts for the opening-day match against the Cubs in Tokyo. The Athletic’s Los Angeles Dodgers beat writer Fabian Ardaya confirmed that the MLB team would be going ahead with their $11 million prospect Miguel Rojas as a replacement for Mookie Betts. The MLB insider reposted his own post on Mookie Betts with respect to the roster update of the Dodgers for the opening day. His post mentioned:“Miguel Rojas will start both games at shortstop for the Dodgers in Tokyo.
Cubs are starting two lefties—Shota Imanaga and Justin Steele.”
During a press conference with the MLB Network, Dodgers’ manager Dave Roberts provided a major update on Mookie Betts’ availability for the opening day game. He said-“I think that we’re really trying to be mindful of not just Opening Day, but not putting him in harm’s way. He hasn’t taken live at-bats or played in any games, and not to put him in a position where he potentially could get hurt.”

Dave Roberts further explained:“I think No. 1 coming in that he doesn’t feel signs of being overly taxed today. Feeling strong tomorrow, and then tomorrow, to be able to go through an entire workout and not feel that same fatigue would give us a chance. But anything outside of that, I just don’t think the training staff would feel good about.”There hasn't been much information shared by the Los Angeles Dodgers regarding Mookie Betts' illness, but it's undoubtedly a significant setback for both the team and Betts' fans with the 2025 MLB around the corner.
