The New York Mets have finally decided to let go of Pete Alonso's contract discussions and explore more options. While the team faced massive backlash from fans and sports critics, what Alonso’s teammates thought of the Mets' decision has been a trending topic lately. Mets star Brandon Nimmo recently shared his reaction regarding the same and here’s what he said.

Brandon Nimmo’s reaction to Mets’ decision of letting go of Pete Alonso

During his attendance at the Mets’ “Amazin Day” fan fest event, Brandon Nimmo talked to the media about the New York Mets’ decision to “move forward” from Pete Alonso's contract decision. Nimmo expressed that he “would love to” see Alonso back in the team. However, he respects Alonso’s decision to explore the market for better deals. Talking about the same, he said:"I would love to see Pete back with us. But I also understand that I don't make those decisions and that's between Pete and our front office and David [Stearns] and Steve [Cohen]. From what I understand, there have been a lot of talks between them. I'm still hopeful that we'll sign him.”
"Even if so, we're really happy about what we've done this offseason. I think we've made our team a better team. Obviously, I love Pete. I've been with him for a long time so would love to see him back. And so we'll see how that all transpires in the coming days and weeks,” Nimmo further added. Moving forward in his media interaction, a reporter asked Brandon Nimmo if he was surprised by the Mets’ decision. Nimmo said that he’s not much surprised considering the fact that he wants Alonso to get what he “deserves.” Adding to his previous statement, Nimmo said:"Surprised? I can't be surprised with somebody's decision. I mean, it's his decision. Pete should maximize. Pete should make the best decision for him and his family.
It's a tough question because it's something that, 'Am I surprised with someone's thoughts?' Pete's been here since I've been here, he's been here before me.”

Moving forward, Brandon Nimmo expressed how the team would feel "different" without Pete Alonso, but he's happy about the fact that the first baseman is exploring better options. Talking about the same, Nimmo added. "So yeah, it would be different if he's gone somewhere else. Yeah, it'll be different for sure. I think he should take his time. I think he should make the best decision for himself and not feel like he's rushed into a decision, and I'm sure he will. Pete's smart. He's going to get input from his wife and his family and then make the best decision for himself. As he should, he deserves it."Apart from Brandon Nimmo, MLB critic Scott Boras also shared his reaction to the Mets’ decision to give up on Pete Alonso. Boras was spotted lashing out at Mets’ owner Steve Cohen for his statement, which elaborated on the reason for letting go of Alonso. Now that it's clear that Pete Alonso won't be moving forward with the Mets, the Blue Jays comes out as an interesting prospect. With the team having confirmed that they are interested to sign Alonso, do you think the first baseman would join them?
