MLB 2026 is going to be held from March onwards, and prior to the season's start, a new issue has arrived. Many of the MLB teams are signing off on their contracts with FanDuel Sports Network. In the sports network arena, FanDuel has been one of the prominent networks since 2009. This sudden shift of major teams from FanDuel is going to have an effect on the MLB this season. It's been decades since FanDuel became a significant way for the fans to watch MLB. However, with the change in the industry, media exposure and emergence of new media partners, teams are trying to go for other options than FanDuel. This can work as a prompt towards the reshaping of sports broadcasting in the USA.

What's the reason for leaving FanDuel at the verge of a new season

The salary of a team's player is given from multiple sources. Media partnering is one of them. The money teams get from their media networks plays an important role in the teams' expenditure. The first reason that arises here is that MLB teams that have contact with FanDuel are facing financial insecurity. They say that the way FanDuel sometimes fails to clear out the payment, it's hard for the teams to rely on them in the long run.
It would hamper the partnership of the team with its players.
Another reason can be the new era of streaming, as most of the streamers or viewers have shifted to other platforms rather than traditional cable television, so accordingly, they want to partner with OTTs where it will be reliable for both parties. Although the FanDuel network is the oldest and has performed well through many years, somehow teams now believe in stability over experience. And looking at the new trends, teams are leaving the FanDuel partnership to secure their future.

How will this shift affect viewers and MLB

There will be pros and cons for all the parties, including fans and MLB, in this shift. While MLB is going to make a profit in terms of broadcasting, as for now, they will not have to rely on an outside network for broadcasting. On the other hand, fans who are used to watching the league on television will find it difficult to stream the event. But as the shift introduces streamers with new and reliable sources of streaming, it is quite easier. And accordingly, fans don't have to buy exclusive cable subscriptions, which is again a good thing. Overall, the shift from traditional sports networks to trendy ones will have both positive and negative impacts on fans and MLB.
