Who is Lachie Neale? Brisbane Lions Co-Captain resigns from leadership role amid marriage issues and personal challenges

Lachie Neale, an Australian football player, has resigned from his position as co-captain of the Brisbane Lions, amid rumors that his marriage had broken down.

Lachie, a two-time Brownlow Medal winner, is awarded to the best player each season in the Australian Football League

“I can say that I have let my family down, and I apologize for my actions, which have hurt those closest to me, and for that I am deeply sorry.”

Neale, 32, said in a press conference on Friday, January 2.

“I accept this is a consequence of my actions, and I need to focus on rebuilding that trust with Jules, as the future well-being of our children remains the No. 1 priority.”

Moreover, he adds, “I’m extremely disappointed in myself, and I’ve put plans in place to do the work on myself so that I can be the best version of myself.”

This press conference took place at Brisbane’s headquarters. During this press conference, he wore a plain T-shirt without any logo or club branding.


In 2018, Lachie married Jules, 30, and the couple had two children: a son named Freddie, born in 2024, and a daughter named Piper, born in 2021. As per an ESPN report She is moving back to Western Australia with her kids.

Lachie was asked directly if he cheated on his wife, but he refused to comment on the allegations surrounding his marriage. “I cannot address those rumors,” he stated.

During the press conference, Lachie requested that the media respect the privacy of Jules and their kids.

“I understand as a public figure that there is interest in my personal life,” he said. “However, I do ask that the privacy of Jules and my children be respected as we work through our new situation and the next chapter of our lives.”

Fans realised that Jules had removed Lachie from her Instagram, which was auspicious for a married couple. After fans noticed, she refuted a rumor via her social media that the couple was “working through” some private issues.

“I want to make it very clear that I am not ‘working through’ anything,” she posted via Instagram story.

She states, “I have been betrayed most unimaginably. All I can do now is to heal and do what’s best for my children.”

Jules was also spotted removing furniture from the couple's house on New Year's Eve and selling it on Facebook Marketplace. On Monday, December 26, the outlet reported that Jules’ car was seen "filled to the brim" with moving boxes.

During Lachie Neale’s press conference, he was questioned about whether he thinks of himself as a role model for his supporters and whether he can stay that way. Lachie stated,

“As I said, I’m extremely disappointed in my actions and the breakdown of my marriage, and I take full responsibility for it.”

He adds, “For me, yeah, it hurts. I understand that I am a role model and I’ve probably let fans, not just at the Brisbane Lions, but the AFL, down, so I accept that responsibility and as I said, I’ve put things in place moving forward to become a better person.”
