WWE's newest star, Stephanie Vaquer, has teased that she could one day find herself competing in mixed martial arts - possibly for UFC. In a recent conversation with Vaquer, she discussed her love for the game, training in Mexico at the UFC Performance Institute, and her friendship with fellow Chilean Ignacio Bahamondes. While she acknowledges the differences between pro wrestling and MMA, she expressed,
“That’s why I hope one day we can do something together.”Stephanie Vaquer sees similarities between wrestling and MMA
Vaquer knows very well that pro wrestling and MMA aren't the same thing, but she said at the end of the day, both are grounded in discipline, mental toughness, and fighting spirit. Sure, it's a different discipline than pro wrestling, but she said,
“I know it’s a different discipline from pro wrestling, but we are both fighters.” That mindset has seen her training at the UFC Performance Institute in Mexico, suggesting that she is giving serious consideration to what a crossover might entail.

Of course, the skill sets and the rules are different, but the drive and determination are very similar in both sports, she added. It has made her more comfortable with the thought of working in an MMA environment, even if it’s strictly a one-off crossover or cameo.
Friendship with Ignacio Bahamondes fuels her ambition
A major part of Vaquer’s interest in MMA comes from her personal connection with Ignacio Bahamondes, a well-known Chilean fighter in UFC. She described him as not only famous in Chile but also someone who truly understands her as both an athlete and a person. “
In both fighting and wrestling, he understands me, the sport, and the discipline,” she said.

The knowledge that someone she trusts has already had success in MMA gives her confidence that a transition could be in the cards.
Vaquer has not even gotten a deal to transition to MMA full-time, or even inked a contract with UFC just yet. But the way she talked about it and trained for it seemed to indicate that it wasn't just a passing fancy. Fans on both sides of the wrestling/MMA line will be watching closely to see if she'll ever leap.
