Frédéric Vasseur is now one of the most esteemed authorities in Formula 1, having provided steady leadership to Ferrari during a period of significant transitions. The 57-year-old Frenchman started at Ferrari in 2023 and quickly earned respect for his extensive history of achievement in Motorcycle Racing management. He is also the head of a team containing Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc, and preparing for significant new regulations.

From junior success to Ferrari leadership

Frédéric Vasseur began working towards his extraordinary career in the world of motorsport back in 1996 with the founding of ASM, which would become ART Grand Prix and become the dominant team in a number of junior racing categories. Over the almost 20 years since then, he has won many championships in both Formula 3 and GP2, and has played a major role in the development of some of today’s greatest drivers, including Hamilton and Rosberg.
This track record helped propel Vasseur into the higher echelons of Formula 1, where he began at Renault in 2016 and completed a rebuild of Sauber/Alfa Romeo from 2017-2022. In January of 2023, Ferrari named him as the replacement for Mattia Binotto, becoming just the second Frenchman to lead the Scuderia in the team’s history, joining Jean Todt. In addition, Vasseur’s strong history of developing young talent was demonstrated when he brought Charles Leclerc from Sauber to Ferrari, where he is expected to be a future star for the team.
This success story has helped establish Vasseur as a respected member of the Formula 1 community and as someone capable of handling pressure at one of the sport’s highest levels.

Facing challenges and aiming for 2026 success

In 2025, Ferrari did quite poorly, finishing outside the top three, even fourth in the constructors’ championship. This performance made the team very focused on designing and building the 2026 car early on, and caused some uncertainty about the future of their leadership structure. However, in July of 2025, Vasseur received a longer (multi-year) contract as team principal, affirming that the team is more united than ever and that there is now greater alignment between all departments within Ferrari than in the past. The 2026 season will see the introduction of new regulations, and Ferrari recently debuted the 2026 SF-26, with Vasseur having full confidence that they will be back competing for race wins. The addition of Lewis Hamilton, a seven-time World Champion, to the line-up, along with Charles Leclerc, complements this project with renewed energy under Hamilton’s leadership. With the prolonged stability of leadership and continued forward momentum through management and strategy continuity, Vasseur is continuing to provide a vision for how Ferrari will succeed in this new era of F1 racing.
