City youngster Foden's stars are on the rise

KOLKATA: The Young Lions made England proud and former greats like Peter Shilton, Gary Lineker and Michael Owen joined current stars like Wayne Rooney, Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy in heaping praise on the English colts on social media platforms.There is no denying the fact that in spite of Rhian Brewster's incredible goalpoaching skills, the shining light in England's campaign was Phil Foden.It is not that the lad from Stockport was an unknown commodity when he arrived here with the team and stole the limelight. Foden was not only on Manchester City's roster but also touted as a future England star by none other than his club boss Pep Guardiola. So impressed was Pep with the youngster's stirring displays against Manchester United and Real Madrid during City preseason tour of the US that the manager made it known that it was a matter of time before Foden broke into the senior side.Foden, on his part, did his reputation no harm by consistently churning out dazzling displays in the U-17 World Cup and emerged as the rightful claimant of the 'Golden Ball'."As soon as he gets the ball, I know what he is going to do. I don't know how many assists he got for me. I would love it if he plays with me at Liverpool," said Brewster.
