Scotland vs Nepal Highlights, T20 World Cup 2026: Nepal beat Scotland by 7 wickets

Scotland vs Nepal Highlights, T20 World Cup 2026: Nepal signed off from the T20 World Cup 2026 with a memorable seven-wicket win over Scotland, ending a 12-year-long winless run in the tournament. In front of more than 19,000 fans at the Wankhede Stadium, Nepal chased down Scotland’s 171 with 19.2 overs to spare, thanks to a brilliant performance from Kushal Bhurtel and Dipendra Singh Airee. Bhurtel’s 43, laced with four sixes and a four, set the tone for the chase, while Airee’s unbeaten 50 off just 23 balls, featuring three sixes and four fours, anchored the innings. Gulsan Jha added 24 not out, including two crucial sixes, contributing to an unbroken 73-run partnership for the fourth wicket.

Bhurtel’s innings began with a stroke of fortune, surviving a dropped return catch by Brad Currie, which he followed with a huge six over long-on. Alongside Aasif Sheikh (33), who smashed a six over fine leg and multiple boundaries off Mark Watt, Nepal gained early momentum. Scottish spinners later curtailed the scoring, taking key wickets, including Bhurtel, Sheikh, and skipper Rohit Paudel (16), but Airee’s late assault kept Nepal in control.

Earlier, Scotland managed 170/7, largely due to Michael Jones’ 71-run innings featuring eight fours and three sixes. His 80-run opening partnership with George Munsey provided stability, but Scotland’s momentum faltered, compounded by a dropped skier off McMullen and a brilliant one-handed return catch by Sompal Kami to dismiss Jones.

Although the match had no bearing on Super 8 qualification, Nepal’s victory provided a perfect conclusion to their campaign, boosting morale and delighting fans after a long wait for T20 World Cup success.

Nandan Yadav to Brandon McMullen, DROPPED! Nepal's celebrations are cut short! A slower full ball and around the off stump line, McMullen walks down a couple of steps, tries to loft it downtown, but does not properly get under the ball and skies it off the toe end of the bat. The ball hangs up for a lifetime between long off and long on. Sundeep Jora runs under it from the former position, tries to settle himself and the ball seems to have grassed as he takes a tumble on the ground while trying to catch it. Going by his own expressions, he isn't quite sure whether he took it cleanly or not. But the Nepalese players are celebrating. However, the on-field umpires converge and send it upstairs. The replay rolls in and shows that the ball bursts through his hands and hits his thighs and rolls on the grass before he gathers it back. So McMullen is safe and gets a single as the batters cross.

Message for the batters. The tweflth man for Scotland has run into the middle, with a message for the two batters. Time for acceleration? Meanwhile, Nepal bring back Nandan Yadav. 1-0-10-0 so far.

He spots Munsey come down the track and fires it a bit wider and pretty fuller outside off. Munsey is already out of his crease and has to reach out. Manages to get to the ball on the full, but can barely time it. The ball goes in the air towards long off, where Sundeep Jora makes no mistake. Not the best of innings for Munsey. Scotland vs Nepal Highlights, T20 World Cup 2026: Nepal ended their 12-year T20 World Cup winless streak with a commanding seven-wicket victory over Scotland in a Group C dead-rubber at the Wankhede Stadium. Chasing 171, Nepal were powered by Kushal Bhurtel’s quickfire 43 and Dipendra Singh Airee’s unbeaten 50 off 23 balls, featuring three sixes and four fours. The pair, along with Gulsan Jha’s 24 not out, shared an unbroken 73-run partnership for the fourth wicket, ensuring Nepal reached their target with four balls to spare.

Bhurtel had an early reprieve when Brad Currie dropped a return catch, immediately punishing the error with a massive six. Openers Bhurtel and Aasif Sheikh (33) gave Nepal a strong platform, though Scottish spinners later claimed key wickets, including Bhurtel, Aasif, and skipper Rohit Paudel (16). Airee’s late onslaught helped Nepal regain control.

Earlier, Michael Jones led Scotland to 170/7 with a 71-run innings, his eight fours and three sixes forming the backbone of the total alongside an 80-run opening stand with George Munsey. Scotland struggled to maintain momentum, and Sompal Kami (3/25) ended Jones’ innings with a stunning one-handed return catch.

Despite the match being inconsequential for tournament progression, Nepal’s victory provided a morale boost and a fitting end to their T20 World Cup campaign, thrilling over 19,000 fans at the Wankhede Stadium.
