Who is Vishal Jayswal? Gujarat spinner who stunned Delhi by dismissing Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant
Gujarat's left-arm spinner Vishal Jayswal stole the show in Delhi’s second Vijay Hazare Trophy match at Bengaluru’s BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground 1, capping off a stellar day with 4 for 42 from 10 overs.
The 27-year-old dismantled Delhi's batting lineup by dismissing opener Arpit Rana (10) and Nitish Rana (12), then crucially stumped Virat Kohli for a stylish 77 off 61 balls (13 fours, 1 six, SR 126.23) in the 22nd over with help from keeper Urvil Patel. Kohli had been in scintillating form, following his tournament-opening hundred that sealed a four-wicket win for Delhi.
Jayswal saved his biggest blow for last, removing Delhi captain Rishabh Pant for 70 in the 44th over just as the keeper-batter was charging ahead with a solid half-century. In Gujarat’s opener, Jayswal had grabbed one wicket in their eight-wicket thrashing of Services.
The 27-year-old cricketer hailing from Gujarat is a proficient left-arm spinner who bats left-handed, and participated in 11 first-class matches, 12 List A games, and 16 T20 fixtures to date.
Vishal made his professional debut in October 2022, a match during which he unfortunately did not bowl and was dismissed for a golden duck while batting at the no. 9 position.
To this point in his career, Jayswal has impressively taken a total of 64 wickets across all formats, with a notable 40 of those coming from first-class cricket.
In addition to his bowling talents, he has also made significant contributions with the bat, which include achieving a century and a half-century in first-class cricket, along with a fifty in List A format to add to his credentials
