Wedding postponed: Smriti Mandhana removes marriage posts after father and fiancé Palash Muchhal hospitalised
NEW DELHI: Indian women's cricket team vice-captain Smriti Mandhana has removed all wedding-related posts from her Instagram. This development coincides with her father Shriniwas and fiancé Palash Mucchal's hospitalisation, though Palash has since been discharged in recovering in Mumbai.
The deletion includes her proposal video and wedding-related contents. Her teammates Jemimah Rodrigues and Shreyanka Patil have also removed the announcement video from their official social media platforms.
Recent days have seen intense monitoring of ODI World Cup -winner Mandhana's social media activity, particularly concerning her wedding and its subsequent postponement. While all wedding posts, engagement announcements, reels, and the proposal videos have been removed, her earlier casual photos with fiance Palash remain on her official Instagram handle.
The removal of the engagement video by Jemimah Rodrigues has further intensified discussions among followers. The hospitalisation of both Mandhana's father and Palash Mucchal has caused concern among their supporters.
The family has confirmed that Mr Mandhana's condition is stable and under observation.
Smriti's manager Tuhin Mishra has officially announced the cancellation of yesterday's ceremony, with no confirmation on when the festivities will resume.
"Today in the morning, when he was having breakfast, Smriti Mandana's father, Mr. Srinivas Mandhana, got unwell. We waited for a while. We thought that maybe it's normal, he will be fine. But he was getting worse. So we thought, let's not take any risk, so we called an ambulance and took him to the hospital. Now he is under observation," Mishra stated on Sunday.
"You know Smriti is very close to her father. She decided that until her father gets well, this marriage, which was supposed to happen today, is indefinitely postponed. Now he is under observation, and the doctor has said that he will have to stay in the hospital. And until he gets well, because we are also in shock, and we want him to recover soon."
The situation escalated further when reports emerged that groom-to-be Palash Muchhal had also been hospitalised in Sangli due to emotional stress caused by the sudden illness of Smriti’s father. Palash has since returned to Mumbai and is “resting and recovering,” according to his mother, Amita Muchhal.
She explained how deeply attached he is to Shrinivas Mandhana, describing that Palash himself insisted the wedding be halted until Smriti’s father was fully stable. Amita recounted the frightening moments, revealing that Palash’s condition required medical attention, including an IV drip and ECG tests, though all results came back normal. “Smriti and Palash both are in distress… Palash dreamt of coming home with his bride, but the family had no choice but to postpone the wedding,” she said.
The couple and their families have requested privacy while they focus on Srinivas Mandhana's recovery.
The wedding was scheduled for November 23 in Sangli, Maharashtra.
The celebration was planned to be an intimate affair with close family members and fans in attendance. Several members of the Women's World Cup-winning Indian cricket team were present during the wedding celebrations.
