NEW DELHI: New Zealand batter Katie Perkins’ dismissal during a tour match against Australia Governor-General's XI on Thursday in Sydney caught everyone by surprise. In fact, Heather Graham, the Australian bowler, who got the wicket was in disbelief herself after completing the catch. Kiwi wicket-keeper Katey Martin at the non-striker's end was unfortunately the centerpiece of the chaotic and bizarre dismissal.


The incident happened in the 45th over of the New Zealand innings when Perkins tried to hit an over-pitched delivery off Graham straight down the ground. Caught in the line of fire was Perkins’ batting partner Martin at the non-striker's end.

Trying to get out of the way, Martin stuck her bat out and the ball hit her bat and ballooned up in the air. Graham completed the easy catch, but was in shock after witnessing the chain of events.

However, New Zealand women had the last laugh, as they registered a comfortable 166-run win against Australia Governor-General's XI.

Put into bat after losing the toss, New Zealand batters went on to score a massive 323 for seven in their stipulated quota of 50 overs.

Australia Governor-General's XI had a miserable outing during the run chase as the whole team was bundled out for 157.
