MUMBAI: Rattled after

turned down the Mumbai job due to several contractual issues, the

Mumbai Cricket Association

(MCA) looks set to bring back Vinayak Samant to coach the Mumbai senior team for the 2019-20 season.

On Wednesday, top MCA officials met Samant at the association’s HQ. Samant, though, refused to comment on the matter. He had

coached Mumbai last season, in which they had won the Vijay Hazare One-day Trophy after a decade, though they crashed out at the league stage in the Ranji Trophy, and missed a spot in the final of the Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy by a whisker.

With the season’s first tournament, the Vijay Hazare Trophy set to commence on September 24, Samant will have little time to prepare the team. Like Kulkarni, Samant too is a former Mumbai wicketkeeper. Though he didn’t have a great stint last season, he is likely to come back wiser this time.
