Vijay Hazare Trophy: Hardik Tamore, Khan brothers star as Mumbai beat Uttarakhand

JAIPUR: If not Rohit Sharma, then trust his lookalike to deliver. On Friday, Hardik Tamore stole the show at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium when the original earned himself a golden duck. Proving once again that cricket is a great leveller, Rohit’s golden duck against Uttarakhand was his first in List A since 2012, and came after a scintillating 155 against Sikkim on Wednesday.

At one stage Mumbai were struggling at 186 for 5 in the 32nd over. Tamore capitalised on the foundation laid by Khan brothers – Sarfaraz Khan (55 off 49 balls) and Musheer Khan (55 off 56) to help his team post a 300-plus total. In the company of Shardul Thakur (29) and Shams Mulani (48), Tamore gave the innings a strong finish.



Chasing a challenging 332, Uttarakhand opener Yuvraj Choudhary’s run-a-ball 96 kept his team in contention but others lacked firepower to counter Mumbai’s attack and were restricted to 280 for 9.

Rohit’s early departure was a dampener as thousands of his fans, who had thronged the venue braving the morning cold, were in for disappointment. The 6000-odd crowd left heartbroken as their hero failed to open his account. Rohit fell to his own trusted device as his trademark pull failed to come good. Devendra Bora was delighted to see his plans find success after getting the ‘Hitman’ on the first ball of the match.

To add to his misery, Rohit’s miscued shot straight to the deep fine-leg fielder Jagmohan Nagarkoti, who caught it off the second attempt. But Hardik Tamore, who bears an uncanny resemblance to his senior Mumbai teammate, kept the entertainment going with his match-winning knock of 93 not out as Mumbai trounced Uttarakhand by 51 runs to register back-to-back wins. The wicketkeeper batter took 82 balls and with seven fours and two sixes, propelled Mumbai to 331/7 after being put in to bat by Uttarakhand.

Raghuvanshi discharged from hospital

The Mumbai team heaved a big sigh of relief when their young opener Angkrish Raghuvanshi, was discharged from the hospital after scans revealed nothing serious. The 21-year-old was rushed to SDMH hospital after a heavy fall while attempting a difficult catch of Saurabh Rawat that left him with an injury just below the neck and a concussion in the 30th over, bowled by Tanush Kotian.
