CHENNAI: R Vivek’s all-round show --- 1-23 with the ball followed by an unbeaten 28-ball 57 --- helped

Dindigul Dragons

beat iDream

Tiruppur Tamizhans

by six wickets in their TNPL-5 clash at Chepauk on Saturday and book a spot in the playoffs.

Vivek’s knock, comprising five fours and three sixes, was instrumental in Dindigul getting past Tiruppur’s target of 146 with three overs to spare and finish the league stage with eight points from seven matches.

Chasing a tricky target, Dindigul were in trouble at 65-4 in the 10th over but Vivek --- in the company of

Mokit Hariharan

(21 n.o., 1x4) --- revived their fortunes. The duo added a 77-run unbroken partnership off 46 balls for the fifth wicket as Dindigul crossed the finish line in 17 overs.

In the initial stages, Dindigul were in the hunt thanks to the 54-run second wicket stand between C Hari Nishaanth (33, 1x4, 3x6) and Mani Bharathi (24, 2x4, 1x6). Their dismissals gave some anxious moments for Dindigul before Vivek and Mokit turned the tide in their favour.

Earlier, opener S Siddharth (36, 2x4, 3x6) and Maan Baafna (52, 3x4, 1x6) played lead roles to help the side post 145-7 in 20 overs. Their alliance of 50 off 42 balls for the third wicket was the best of the innings. Fast bowler Rangaraj Suthesh (2-16), left-arm spinner M Silambarasan (1-23) were the top bowlers for Tiruppur.
