Ranji Trophy is a choice, not a compulsion for Yashasvi Jaiswal

JAIPUR: For Yashasvi Jaiswal, the grind of domestic cricket is not a forgotten chapter but a ‘continuous process’ integral to his growth as an international cricketer. Jaiswal will turn up for Mumbai in their Ranji Trophy match against Rajasthan beginning Nov. 1 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium here. Jaiswal’s immediate return to the domestic circuit, days after the conclusion of national duties in the ODI series against Australia.

However, Jaiswal made it clear that for him, playing in the Ranji Trophy wasn’t a compulsion but a choice. “Ranji isn’t just a stepping stone to the Indian team, it plays a big role in a player’s growth. Domestic cricket teaches you how to build an innings, handle different situations, stay patient for long periods and respect the game,” Jaiswal told TOI .


This return is also fuelled by a deep sense of loyalty after his recent troubles with Mumbai. “It is a matter of pride to play for Mumbai. So whenever the schedule allows, I try to make sure I’m there to contribute,” he said.
