For the Kiwis, their only target would be picking up the crucial wicket of Joe root and rip their inexperienced line up later on to get a win. Wagner has been consistent with his line and lengths while Jamieson isn't allowing the batsman to get runs off his bowling, he has been unlucky to not get the elusive outside edge despite going past it on numerous occasiosn. Southee as in the first innings has been bowling well but would like to repeat the heroics. There is also some turn in this wicket and it would be crucial to see what role Mitchell Santner plays.

After New Zealand declared on 169 asking England to chase down 273, the openers started the innings well as they played their innings slowly and took their time to settle. The English openers showed character while batting. Especially Sibley, who showed great patience early on in the innings. Burns and Sibley carried in fine fashion and defended with confidence. They showed great composure as they rarely chased any deliveries. Burns saw some extra bounce and would consider himself lucky not falling early. But Wagner came on dismissed him off a really good delivery. Sibley continued to show patience while Crawley departed off Southee after a timid score. Root and Sibley would look to continue to play slow and steady and will keep their eyes on a draw.

A good session for England and it is very likely that this game will end in a draw. They have hung in there and would look to carry on the same way post Tea. For New Zealand, the only thing that they would look to do is pick up wickets soon.
