Ireland all-rounder Curtis Campher made history on Thursday by becoming the first-ever player to take five wickets in five balls in all of men’s professional cricket. Campher achieved the feat while playing for Munster Reds against North-West Warriors in the Inter-Provincial T20 Trophy, finishing with figures of 5/16 in 2.3 overs. All five wickets came across Campher’s second and third overs, as the Warriors collapsed from 87/5 to 88 all out in their pursuit of 189. Jared Wilson was the first to fall, dismissed on the penultimate ball of the 12th over. He then trapped Graham Hume leg-before on the next delivery with a sharp inswinger. Campher returned to bowl the 14th over on a hat-trick and struck immediately, removing Andy McBrine who mistimed a slog to deep midwicket. The feat has only one other instance in professional cricket—by Zimbabwe women’s player Kelis Ndhlovu for Zimbabwe U19 against Eagles Women in a domestic T20 in 2024. In 61 T20Is for Ireland, Campher has scored 924 runs at an average of 21.00 with a strike rate of 125.37, including three fifties. He has also taken 31 wickets with best figures of 4/25 and an average of 34.16.
