The victorious captain of India - AYUSH MHATRE highlights that the innings began well through Vaibhav and George, although there was some assistance for the bowlers with the ball gripping and turning. He heaps praise on Kanishk Chouhan, calling his knock brilliant, and adds that Chouhan had been batting exceptionally well in the nets. Mhatre says the team was confident he would deliver when it mattered. He mentions that contributions came from across the side, in every department, with the bowlers also stepping up at the right time. While the Pakistani batters batted well in the first 25 overs, Mhatre notes that once the ball started to spin, the Indian bowlers executed their plans effectively. Looking ahead, he stresses that the team is taking one game at a time, with the focus firmly on winning the semifinal before thinking about the final or the trophy.
The captain of Pakistan - FARHAN YOUSAF reflects on the defeat. He says that they began well with the ball and were able to pick up three early wickets. However, he admits that slightly wayward bowling allowed the opposition batters to settle, and the slow over-rate penalty that forced them to bring an extra fielder inside the circle also played a role. Despite the outcome, Yousaf says he is proud of his team’s effort and believes they will come back stronger in the future. He details that the initial aim was to win the game and secure qualification for the semifinal, but after losing a few wickets in the chase, the focus shifted to simply trying to win the match. Yousaf describes the wicket as challenging in the second innings and reiterates that the result does not take away from his pride in the team, especially praising the bowling and fielding efforts.
PLAYER OF THE MATCH - KANISHK CHOUHAN gets the award for playing a rescuer knock of 35 runs and returning with bowling figures of 10-1-30-1. He shares that he was advised to take his time at the crease. He explains that the plan was to bat deep, believing a total in the range of 230 to 240 would be competitive. Chouhan adds that the approach was to go for the boundary only when the ball was there to be hit and otherwise keep the scoreboard moving with singles. He describes the wicket as fairly normal and says it feels good to perform with such strong support around him.
... THE PRESENTATION CEREMONY ...
A mammoth challenge for Pakistan - The task in front of Pakistan was enormous, almost like trying to scale Mount Everest, with qualification hinging on chasing the target inside 33.3 overs or fewer. They lost Sameer Minhas, their batting spearhead, early, but Hamza Zahoor and Usman Khan came together to steady the innings. Their 65-run alliance was followed by a sluggish 63-run partnership between Yousaf and Usman, but as the game progressed, the surface began to grip and turn, making stroke-making increasingly difficult for the batters. Pakistan's run rate kept dipping and their chances diminished with every passing over. Just like the spinners of Pakistan, the Indian spin quartet came in unison and choked the scoring completely, combining for 8 wickets. Pakistan were out of the qualification race as they needed around 100 runs when the 34th over approached. And after that, the wheels just came off for them.
A long grind with the bat - India were rocked early, losing their top three inside the Powerplay as Pakistan were sharp in the field and spot on with their plans. Apart from the 62-run stand between Vihaan and Vedant that kept the men in blue afloat in that middle phase, India struggled to stitch together any meaningful alliances, with Pakistan constantly picking up wickets at regular intervals. A lot of the credit goes to Farhan Yousaf’s captaincy, as his bowling changes proved timely and effective. There were also moments where a few dismissals for India, particularly of Kundu and Sooryavanshi, appeared more self-inflicted than forced by the bowling. The turning point arrived in the 47th over, when Pakistan were penalised for a slow over rate and had to bring an extra fielder inside the ring. That shift proved costly. Timely cameos from Kanishk Chouhan and Khilan A. Patel at the death took full advantage, giving India the late surge they needed to push past the 250-run mark.
A clinical win for the Men in Blue - India had already qualified for the semis way before the result, but capping it off by winning it in such a fashion is just like a chef's kiss. With that, they not only top Group 2 of the Super Sixes, but also continue their unbeaten run against Pakistan in the Under-19 World Cup since 2012. It is now confirmed that India will face Afghanistan in the second semifinal in Harare. On the other hand, Bulawayo will be treated to a mini Ashes as Australia will go up against England in the first semifinal.
