... Day 5, Session 2 ...
Sri Lanka will be disappointed that they are staring at an unexpected defeat after setting a huge target. Prabath Jayasuriya was the only bowler that showed any sort of control on the wicket and due to the lack of support from the other end, Pakistan were able to score freely. He has picked up 4 wickets in this innings as well and will be looking to run through the Pakistan lower order and achieve victory for his team. Dhananjaya de Silva bowled well towards the end and Sri Lanka seemed to have underutilized him in this match. There was a caught and bowled opportunity for him towards the end of the session where he had an opportunity to dismiss the centurion, Abdullah Shafique. Prabath Jayasuriya was rewarded at the stroke of Lunch with a wicket of Agha Slaman and Sri Lanka may just have a sniff at an opportunity here. Join us back at 12.40 pm IST (7.10 am GMT) for the second session.
The visitors came out with positive intent looking to score from the beginning. They did not allow the Sri Lankan spinners to get settled in or the pressure to build. Abdullah Shafique and Mohammad Rizwan shared a partnership of 71 runs to take Pakistan to a position of strength. After Rizwan departed on 40, Agha Salman came to the wicket and stuck around for a bit. They were pegged back at the stroke of Lunch as they lost Agha Salman but Pakistan find themselves in a commanding position and will be looking to take a 1-0 lead in the series.
Pakistan have stamped their authority on this game in this first session of Day 5. They are now just 44 runs away from what would be a remarkable victory chasing a record total! Abdullah Shafique has played an outstanding innings and is still going strong on 139. With 5 wickets left in the bag this should be stroll for Pakistan hence forth.
