KKR vs SRH IPL Final Highlights: Kolkata Knight Riders beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 8 wickets to clinch third title
KKR vs SRH IPL Final highlights: Kolkata Knight Riders lifted their third Indian Premier League (IPL) title with an eight-wicket thrashing of Sunrisers Hyderabad in a lop-sided final in Chennai on Sunday.
Kolkata, who topped the group stage of the 10-team league, had beaten Hyderabad in the first qualifier on Tuesday and were even more dominant in the summit clash, which lasted 29 overs.
Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins was left to rue his decision to bat first as his side got skittled out for 113 runs in 18.3 overs.
Player-of-the-match Mitchell Starc produced a double strike while his new ball partner Vaibhav Arora dismissed the dangerous Travis Head for a first ball duck to rattle Hyderabad.
Kolkata's talismanic all-rounder Andre Russell claimed three crucial wickets, including those of South African Aiden Markram and rival captain Cummins, as Hyderabad wilted inside 19 overs.
Defending the lowest total in an IPL final, Cummins removed Sunil Narine in the second over but the miracle they needed did not materialise.
Venkatesh Iyer, who smashed an unbeaten 52 off 26 balls, and Rahmanullah Gurbaz (39) helped Kolkata romp home in 10.3 overs in front of a sea of purple jerseys that included franchise co-owner and Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan.
"No words to describe (the feeling). It means so much," West Indies stalwart Russell said wiping away tears.
"I am happy that all of us were very disciplined and worked towards one goal. This franchise has done a lot for me. It's a big gift from all of us to them."
It was a special night for Kolkata mentor Gautam Gambhir, who captained the franchise to IPL titles in 2012 and 2014.
"I thought they (Kolkata) bowled fantastically. Obviously not enough (from Hyderabad) tonight... They didn't give us anything," Cummins said of his side's batting effort.
"It was a tricky wicket. I didn't feel it was like a 200-plus wicket. I think 160 would have given us a chance."
Royal Challengers Bengaluru crashed out in the playoffs but stalwart Virat Kohli won the orange cap as the league's leading scorer with 741 runs from 15 matches.
Punjab Kings seamer Harshal Patel won the purple cap for the league's most successful bowler with 24 wickets from 14 matches even though his team did not make the playoffs.
Kolkata's Narine was adjudged the season's Most Valuable Player for his all-round brilliance.

Kolkata Knight Riders produced a clinical effort with the ball to dismiss Sunrisers Hyderabad for 113 in the Indian Premier League final on Sunday.
This is the lowest ever total in an IPL final.
Mitchell Starc (2/14), Andre Russell (3/19) and Harshit Rana (2/24) were the most successful bowlers for the Knight Riders, as SRH simply failed to turn up for the big game.
Opting to bat first, SRH were off to a disastrous start as they lost their top guns Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head with just six runs on the board, with the latter getting dismissed for a first-ball duck to a beautiful outswinger.
Before that, Abhishek was bowled by Mitchell Starc on the fifth ball of the first over, a peach of a delivery opening up the left-hander before hitting the top of the off stump.
SRH were in all sorts of trouble as Starc accounted for the wicket of Rahul Tripathi to leave them reeling at 21/3 in the fifth over, the swing doing the trick for KKR bowlers early on.
First-change bowler Harshit Rana continued the good work and got rid of Nitish Reddy (13). Andre Russell dismissed Aiden Markram in his first over as SRH slipped to 62/5 in the 11th over.
SRH could not recover from there.

Very happy, very happy. We all know how important this game is. As big players, we all stood up. I am happy how I am bowling. I am happy how everyone is bowling. My fitness is a big part of that but mentally, I am in a better space. I was mentally down for last few years. I am in a better state, my body is feeling very good. We are not going to take it lightly. These guys will try to defend it. We need a good powerplay. The bowlers have done their job, now it's up to us batters. Starc set the tone by castling Abhishek which is probably the ball of the tournament. Head fell for a first-ball duck to Vaibhav. Aiden Markram, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Heinrich Klaasen tried to revive the innings but the KKR bowlers were just too good. That Cummins at No. 9 was the top-scorer with 24 tells you how bad it went for SRH.

It's about making sure that we sum those conditions up as quickly as we can and communicate that well. If it's with the bat, get off to the best start we can with me and Abhi (Abhishek Sharma). It's another final. It's nice to be here, it's been a very enjoyable couple of months, so hopefully we can top it off tonight and please a lot of fans. (On losing 4 & 3 wickets in the powerplay in the last two matches) We'd obviously like to lose a little bit less. We got to 170 both times without hitting the marks that we wanted to hit. That's exciting as a group and we spoke about that - we want to go out and continue to play aggressive, play positively and do what we've done the whole time. The positive is that we've been able to get to totals that's given us half a chance with a powerplay like that.
