Fifteen-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi continues to rewrite IPL history with a season for the ages. The
Rajasthan Royals opener shattered a 14-year-old record held by
Chris Gayle during the IPL 2026 Eliminator clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad in New Chandigarh.
Playing in the biggest match of
Rajasthan’s season, Sooryavanshi once again produced a breathtaking display of fearless batting. The teenage sensation raced to his half-century in just 16 balls and, in the process, became the batter with the most sixes ever recorded in a single IPL season.
Most sixes in an IPL season: - 65* - Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (2026)
- 59 - Chris Gayle (2012)
- 52 - Andre Russell (2019)
- 51 - Chris Gayle (2013)
- 45 - Jos Buttler (2022)
The record had stood untouched since Gayle’s iconic 2012 campaign, but Sooryavanshi has now surpassed the legendary power-hitter at just 15 years of age.
The milestone-filled knock did not stop there. Sooryavanshi also became the youngest player ever to complete 600 runs in a single IPL season, breaking the previous record held by Rishabh Pant, who achieved the feat for Delhi Daredevils in 2018.
Even more remarkably, before IPL 2026, no batter in tournament history had scored 550 or more runs in a season at a strike rate above 200. Sooryavanshi has now become the first player to achieve that extraordinary combination of volume and explosiveness.
The Rajasthan Royals opener smashed a breathtaking 97 off just 29 deliveries, dismantling the SRH bowling attack and powering RR to a massive 243/8. Before the match, the teenager was seen meditating calmly on the field, but once the game began, he unleashed complete destruction on the SRH bowlers with 12 sixes and five fours. Jofra Archer then starred with the ball, dismissing Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head and Ishan Kishan as SRH were bowled out for 196 ending their IPL 2026 season with a defeat against Rajasthan Royals for the 1st time since 2023. Rajasthan Royals sealed a dominant 47-run victory to advance to Qualifier 2 against Gujarat Titans.
