Tim Southee notches up his 7th Test half-century and what an incredible knock this has turned out to be. After playing a watchful knock at the start of his innings, Southee just exploded towards the end of the morning session, taking the India bowlers by complete surprise. After Lunch, Southee has now got to his fifty off 57 balls and has so far hit 3 fours and equal number of sixes in it. Raises his half-century with a single off Jasprit Bumrah. NZ 351/7 in 83.2 overs, lead by 305 runs

Keeper Dhruv Jurel misses a Siraj length ball that wobbled late after passing the batter. Fumbles it and that has resulted in 4 byes to fine-leg fence. With that boundary New Zealand now have a 303 run lead over India. NZ 349/7

Welcome back to the post Lunch session on Day 3! Rachin Ravindra (104*) and Tim Southee (49*) are back in the middle to resume the New Zealand innings after the Lunch break on the third day. Jasprit Bumrah to start the proceedings for India. While India will be looking to first break this threatening stand and bundle out the Kiwis quickly, the visitors will be looking to add as many runs as possible in the session. India are already on the backfoot and New Zealand will further look to consolidate their position in this Test.

New Zealand 345/7 in 81 overs, lead by 299 runs

Overnight batsman Rachin Ravindra hit a sparkling century to extend New Zealand's lead to a commanding 299 on day three of the rain-hit first Test against India on Friday.

New Zealand reached 345 for 7 at lunch with the left-handed Ravindra standing firm on 104 to take the attack to the opposition in Bengaluru.

Ravindra, a batting all-rounder whose parents hail from the city, raised his second century from 10 Test appearances with a boundary off Ravichandran Ashwin.

The tourists resumed on 180-3 but conceded four wickets for 53 runs in the morning, with Ravindra Jadeja striking twice in two overs.

His Kiwi namesake then put on an unbeaten stand of 112 with Tim Southee, who was batting on 49 with three fours and three sixes.

India's quicks bowled good spells in the morning with Mohammed Siraj taking the wicket of Daryl Mitchell, caught at gully for 18.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Tom Blundell was the next to depart with pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah getting him caught at second slip for five.

Jadeja led the spin attack to send back Glenn Phillips for 14 and Matt Henry for eight with deliveries that skidded off the pitch to rattle the stumps.

India said they were keeping Rishabh Pant off the field for the day after the wicketkeeper injured his knee on Thursday, with Dhruv Jurel substituted in on Thursday.

It was the same knee Pant hurt in a serious car crash in December 2022 that forced him out of action for more than a year.

New Zealand fast bowlers Henry and William O'Rourke shared nine wickets between them to bowl out India on day two for 46, their third-lowest Test score and lowest ever on home turf.

That's it! Mohammed completes the final over of the session as New Zealand go into Lunch at 345 for seven and with a strong 299-run lead over India on the third day of this Bengaluru Test.

India managed four wickets in the session but Rachin Ravindra played a solid hand, scoring an unbeaten 104, further solidified Kiwis' position in the Test.

In the last few overs, both Tim Southee and Rachin went berserk, scoring 43 runs together off 18 balls.

India were already on the backfoot as both teams walked out on the third day, and now with Rohit Sharma and co. failing to bundle out the visitors in this session, means more pressure on India.

Southee and Rachin landed quite a few punches towards the end of the session and India now find themselves in quite a bit of trouble.

Rachin walks back unbeaten on 104 and Southee has hit a 50-ball 49.

A cracking knock this has been from Rachin Ravindra. He raises his second Test ton off just 124 balls. What an effort this has been from the left-hander. 11 fours and 2 sixes in his knock so far and his knock has put the Kiwis in pole position in this contest. Gets to the three-figure mark with a lovely sweep for a boundary off R Ashwin.

As a four-run over from Ravindra Jadeja comes to an end Rachin Ravindra and Tim Southee have now added 50-plus runs together for the 8th wicket. This stand continues to frustrate India as Rachin nears his ton. R Ashwin to continue for India as Lunch approaches. NZ 287/7

FOUR! Lovely shot! Too much width outside off from Ravindra Jadeja and a well-set Rachin Ravindra makes the most of it. A half-volley outside off from Jadeja and Rachin smacks it to the vacant cover-point fence for his ninth boundary. NZ 280/7

Looking to play a Ravindra Jadeja length ball around off on the back-foot, Tim Southee edges the ball as it hits keeper Dhruv Jurel's right pad and balloons up. Rachin Ravindra goes bigg! A cracking strike from the left-hander as he deposits an Ashwin ball into the deep mid-wicket stands. It was a rare full-toss from Ashwin and Rachin picked it from outside off and whacked it over the fence.

After three boundaries in the Kuldeep Yadav over where Rachin Ravindra raised his fifty, Tim Southee in the next Ravindra Jadeja over was looking to hit everything out of the park. The Kiwis have made their intentions pretty clear. They will be going big now and try and collect as many runs as possible! R Ashwin comes back into the attack for India now. Rachin and Southee have so far added 27 runs together off 37 balls. NZ 260/7 in 71 overs

FOUR and FIFTY! A top knock this has been from Rachin Ravindra. He raises his fourth half-century in Tests off 88 balls. While New Zealand have lost wickets regularly at one end, Rachin has held his end together strongly. Got lucky a couple of times as well but Rachin has overall looked good during his stay in the middle. Five boundaries in his knock so far as he takes New Zealand lead past the 200-run mark.

As India bowlers chip away with regular wickets, run-scoring has come down a bit for the Kiwis. 7 runs scored in the last three overs since the fall of Matt Henry. Rachin Ravindra is batting on 45 and Tim Southee (5*) is looking to stay in the middle as long as possible. Kuldeep and Jadeja operating for India at the moment.

Henry had hit two back-to-back boundaries off Jadeja on either side of the wicket and went for the third one as well. A big heave across from Henry and he completely missed the ball on the third occasion. The ball crashes into his stumps and New Zealand are now 7 down. NZ 233/7 in 64.5 overs, lead by 187 runs

OUT! High quality bowling from Ravindra Jadeja as he knocks over Glenn Phillips with a ripper. It was a length ball from Jadeja at middle and Phillips went on the backfoot, looking to push it through the off side. The ball goes straight with the arm and Phillips is beaten all ends up. The ball goes through between his bat and pad and crashes into the middle-stump. Phillips departs for 14. NZ 223/6 in 62.3 overs, lead by 177 runs

Kuldeep Yadav almost struck in his first over of the morning session on the third day. It was a length ball from Kuldeep and Rachin Ravindra went on the backfoot to guide it to the point region. There were two noises and Kuldeep looked convinced that it was pad first. Rohit Sharma takes the review and ball-tracking confirms that it was indeed pad first. But the Impact is umpire's call. India retain their review as Rachin survives! NZ 215/5 in 61.2 overs

A perfect start from Ravindra Jadeja as he begins his day with a maiden to Glenn Phillips. Jadeja, on one occasion, almost got Phillips' outside edge while he was testing him around the off stump. Spin at both ends now for India as as Kuldeep Yadav joins Jadeja. NZ 215/5 in 61 overs

Streaky! A probing delivery just outside off from Jasprit Bumrah and Glenn Phillips edges it to the third-man fence. The ball was pitched on length and it moved slightly away from the batter. Phillips was looking to push it through the off side but instead got the outside edge. The ball went through the gap between the slip and the gully fielder and raced to the fence. NZ 214/5 lead by 168 runs

OUT! Another one goes down for New Zealand as Tom Blundell is caught at second slip. Jasprit Bumrah was testing him around off and this time the pacer gets the outside edge off Blundell's bat. KL Rahul takes a comfortable catch at second slip as Blundell perishes for just 5. Two quick wickets for India after a steady start from New Zealand on Day 3. A maiden! Jasprit Bumrah bowled his second over from round the wicket to Rachin Ravindra and was on the money. Beat Rachin once in the over as well with a beauty that nipped away from the left-hander after pitching. Siraj to continue from the other end.

Rishabh Pant didn't take the field at the onset on Day 3 of the first India vs New Zealand Test in Bengaluru on Friday (October 18). India captain Rohit Sharma expressed his disappointment and took responsibility for the team's poor performance after choosing to bat first against New Zealand in Bengaluru.

The hosts were bundled out for a meager 46 runs in just 31.2 overs, marking their third-lowest Test score ever and their lowest at home.

The Kiwi fast bowling duo of Matt Henry and William O'Rourke exploited the overcast conditions, sharing nine wickets between them. India's previous lowest Test score at home was 75 against the West Indies in New Delhi in 1987, while their overall lowest is 36 against Australia in Adelaide in 2020.

After India's dismal batting collapse on the second day of the first Test against New Zealand in Bengaluru, captain Rohit Sharma expressed his disappointment, saying it was painful to witness such a low score.

Rohit also acknowledged that his decision to bat first may have backfired, but he emphasized that a rare poor call in a year is acceptable. India were bowled out for 46, their lowest Test total on home soil.

"I am hurting to see this score of 46 as captain as it was my call to bat first. But one or two bad calls in a year is all right," Rohit said after the day's play.

New Zealand then took further control of the match, moving to 180 for 3 before close of play, led by opener Devon Conway's attacking 91 off 105 balls, which put the visitors ahead by 134 runs.

Unwanted history was created by the hosts on Thursday. Shot out for 46, thanks to the nine wickets shared between Matt Henry and William ORourke, India registered their lowest ever total in an innings of a Test played at home. As many as five batsman got out for a zero, including Virat Kohli.
