The series is locked at 1-1 as England captain Ben Stokes is appearing in his 100th Test.
India handed debuts to middle-order batter Sarfaraz Khan, a heavy scorer in domestic cricket for Mumbai, and young wicketkeeper batter Dhruv Jurel, who will replace KS Bharat in the playing eleven.
England have brought back pacer Mark Wood in place of young spinner Shoaib Bashir.
Teams:
India: Rohit Sharma (c), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Rajat Patidar, Sarfaraz Khan, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel(w), Ravichandran Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj
England: Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes(c), Ben Foakes (wk), Rehan Ahmed, Tom Hartley, Mark Wood, James Anderson.
After years of hard work and a mountain of runs lately in domestic cricket, middle-order batsman Sarfaraz Khan made his India debut for India on Thursday, as the 26-year-old Mumbaikar was presented the Test cap by bowling legend Anil Kumble ahead of the third Test against England in Rajkot
While Team India did the cap presentation ceremony in a huddle shortly before the toss, Sarfarz's father, Naushad Khan stood at a distance and couldn't control his emotions and tears came out.
Injured KL Rahul was ruled out of ahead of the match, which brought Sarfaraz into the picture.
Young wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel also made his India debut and was awarded the Test cap along with Sarfaraz. He will replace KS Bharat, who hasn't been able to produce runs.
We would've batted first too. (On playing his 100th Test) Time flies when you're having fun. The series has been a fair reflection of both teams, we've been very happy with the way we've gone about things in the first two Tests. We had a nice break, gave everyone a chance to relax. There was no cricket, we got the families out, it was great. Being here for so long is both physically and mentally demanding. Was a nice opportunity to put the feet up and get some time away from cricket. In Test matches there are only so many moments that you sieze the game in and that's what India did in the last one. Just one change for us.
We're going to bat first. We've made some changes, made four changes. Some injuries and some guys coming back from the last game. Two debutants. Siraj and Jadeja are back. Axar Patel and Mukesh Kumar miss out. Looks a good pitch, better than the last two we've played on. Rajkot is known to be a good pitch but it'll deteriorate as it goes. The guys have stood up and done the job for the team when it was needed. The next three Test matches will be as exciting as the first two. Need to keep our focus here and see how we can do well.
Taking a bit of knowledge from the last test match we played here, albeit a long time ago, it was a pretty true, flat wicket. Bringing in an extra seamer this week is the option we've gone with because we think it's going to give us the best chance of winning.
In the past, it wasn't easy for other teams that come here and play in these conditions. England have a style of playing aggressively. They connect sometimes, sometimes not. But that's their style. We have to think of our plan B.
