Day 4 session 1 in a nutshell!
Ashwin got rid of opener Rory Burns off the first ball of the second innings but England went into Lunch on Day 4 with a solid 242-run lead, putting India on the backfoot in the first Test. After opting not to enforce the follow-on, England suffered a terrible start as Ashwin gave the visitors a shock, picking up Burns. But in a disappointing performance with the bat, India were bundled out for 337 in reply to England's 578 in the first innings late in the morning session. Ashwin and Sundar resumed India innings at 256 for 6 and added 80 runs for the seventh wicket before Jack Leach's twin strike rattled the hosts. James Anderson then quickly wrapped up the tail as Sundar was left stranded at the other end on an unbeaten 85. After bundling out India, England decided to give their bowlers a breather and opted not to enforce the follow-on. England went into the break 242 runs ahead of India, strengthening their grip on the match.

Shahbaz Nadeem completes the final over before lunch as England go into the break at 1/1 and with a lead of 242 runs. What a start to the innings that was from Ashwin. Picks up Rory Burns for a duck first-ball. But India still have miles to go if they are to make a comeback in this Test.

England not to enforce follow-on!
So, England have decided not to enforce the follow-on. They will bat again and will now look to add some quick runs and set a target of around 400 for India. A disappointing effort from the India batsmen but they will now hope that the bowlers step up and try and restrict England. England already have a first innings lead of 241 runs.

OUT! Ben Stokes takes a one-handed stunner at first slip to get rid of Jasprit Bumrah. James Anderson gets his second wicket. India all out for 337 in their first innings. Sundar ends on 85 not out. England have a lead of 24 1 runs.

Realizing that he is not left with much options, Sundar is now taking on England bowlers. Collects 13 runs from Joe Root's over including a four and a six. India still need 43 runs to avoid follow-on. IND 336/9

OUT! James Anderson gets his first wicket of the match. Surprises Ishant Sharma with a bouncer. Ollie Pope at forward short-leg makes no mistake. Ishant walks back for 4. India still need 56 runs to avoid the follow-on.

Sundar slams Anderson for a six!
SIX! A cracking strike from Sundar straight down the ground. This time he takes on James Anderson. Hits him straight and the ball comfortably crosses the fence. A boundary to end the over from Anderson. Sundar moves to 70. India still need 61 runs to avoid the follow-on.

Leach strikes again!
OUT! Second wicket of the morning session for Jack Leach. This time he removes Shahbaz Nadeem for a 12-ball duck. Sundar is fighting hard at the other end but he is not getting the required support. India 312/8, still trail by 266 runs. They need anothe r67 runs to avoid the follow-on.

Leach strikes for England!
WICKET! England finally have their first breakthrough of the morning session on Day 4 as Jack Leach removes Ashwin for 31. Good length delivery outside off and Ashwin reaches for it. Gets the edge and the ball balloons. Wicketkeeper Jos Buttler takes a good diving catch coming in from behind the stumps. A terrific 80-run partnership between Ashwin and Sundar comes to an end. Both Washington Sundar (58*) and Ashwin (26*) batting really well at the moment. Timing the ball superbly but they still have a lot of work to do. India still need 79 runs to avoid follow-on and trail by big 278-run margin.

Washington Sundar comfortably punched Jorfa Archer straight down the ground for a boundary and England have quickly realized that the old ball is not helping them at all and instead favouring Sundar and Ashwin. So just 9 balls after it was due, England have taken the new cherry. Jofra Archer steaming in with the second new ball now. IND 289/6

Second in a row for Sundar. His first fifty on home soil. Gets there with a cracking boundary off Jack Leach. Sundar has been exceptional with the bat in the last two Tests.
