Sri Lanka innings in a nutshell!!
An all-round bowling performance led by the spinners helped India restrict Sri Lanka to 262 for 9 in the first ODI in Colombo on Saturday. The spin trio of Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal and Krunal Pandya shared five wickets between them and bowled tidy spells, not allowing the host batsmen to settle in and score freely throughout the innings. Skipper Dasun Shanaka (39) opted to bat after winning the crucial toss and openers Avishka Fernando and Minod Bhanuka did manage to get their team off to a good start, adding 49 runs for the opening wickets. But after that, the hosts kept on losing wickets at regular intervals as spinners took control of the game. All the three spinners used pace variations to good effect and bowled at superb line and lengths to strangle the batsmen. But a late surge from Dushmantha Chameera and Chamika Karunaratne helped the hosts recover and helped them get to a respectable total. They collected 32 runs in the final two overs from Hardik Pandya and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Karunaratne (43 not out), eventually finished as the top scorer for the hosts. Along with the spinners, Deepak Chahar picked up a couple of wickets while Hardik too got a wicket to his name.
