BENGALURU: Shreyas Gopal ripped through the Tripura Cricket Association middle and lower order to give KSCA XI the advantage on the first of their four-day Dr Thimmappiah Memorial All-India Invitational cricket tournament at the RSI grounds here on Thursday.
The leg-spinner returned with an impressive haul of six wickets to bowl out Tripura for 297 in 76.1 overs.
1x1 polls
It was Smit Patel's century (133) that saved Tripura from further humiliation. When stumps were drawn, the hosts, in reply, were 27 for no loss.
Tripura collapse began within the first hour of play when KSCA XI duo of pacer Abhimanyu Mithun (2-30) and left-arm spinner J Suchith (2-104) left the visitors reeling for 2-35 in the first 13 hours.
Patel then went into damage control mode knitting a 50-run partnership with Rajesh Banik before Mithun returned to scalp his second wicket dismissing Banik. Thereafter it was Shreyas, who cleared up the rest.
However, Patel continued to further bolster their innings forging two crucial partnerships of 83 with Yashpal Singh (43) and Ninad Kadam (28) and eventually complete his century even as his partners kept losing their wickets to Shreyas at the other end.
The highlight of Shreyas' bowling was his dismissals of Joydeep Banik and Saurabh Das of consecutive deliveris as Tripura collapsed from 231/5 to 239/7.
Meanwhile, at the Indian Air Force ground, KSCA Colts bowlers made up for their batting failure to take control over the proceedings against Jharkhand State Cricket Association. After tumbling out for a lowly 188 in 49.4 overs, Colts' S Arvind (2-38), Vyshak Vijaykumar (2-35) and KC Cariappa (2-9) shared the bowling spoils to reduce Jharkhand to 91/6 at stumps.

Earlier, Colts batsmen came a cropper as Jharkahand rode on Ajay Yadav six-wicket haul. Naga Bharath's half-century (65) and his 69-run stand with S Arvind (34) for the 8th wicket was the only saving grace for Colts' innings.
At the Just Cricket Ground, KSCA President's XI bowlers came up short as Haryana Cricket Association rode on Rahul Dewan's century (133) to finish the day at 334/4. Praveen Dubey bagged two wickets for the hosts.
