On Saturday, he smashed 153 off 121 balls and stands just behind Andrew Strauss (158), who holds the record for the highest score by an England batsman, in a World Cup game. He helped his team make 386-6 in 50 overs against Bangladesh. Roy's ninth hundred, which included 14 fours and five sixes, helped England beat their opponents by 106 runs.
"I had to redeem myself after the last game," said Roy after the game. Interestingly, all the six ODI centuries that he's hit since the beginning of 2018 have resulted in an England win.

His captain, Eoin Morgan, feels that it's comforting to have an opener in the team who can score big hundreds. In January last year, Roy had cracked 180 - the highest-ever ODI score by an England batsman, to help England chase down 305 against Australia at Melbourne.
"To be honest. He just goes on and gets big scores, and it can range from 140 to 180, and the rate at which he gets it, he's just so difficult to contain. He scores all around the ground. He takes really good bowlers down as well. He hits good balls for boundaries. So he's great to have on the side, particularly when he's in this form," praised Morgan. "He's very intimidating to play against as when he does score runs the impact that it has on the opposing team is quite significant," explained the England captain.
The skipper feels that Roy has matured as a cricketer in the past couple of years, which has reflected in his tremendous performance. "I think probably one of his biggest strengths at the moment is his temperament. He's matured from a county cricketer into the full-blown international cricketer he is now. The temperament that he shows at different stages of his innings and how he goes about picking off his boundaries and the areas in which he scores; I think from the start of his international cricket to now, there's been a considerable difference," observed Morgan.
