The scrutiny surrounding the zing bails refuses to go away. There were quite a few occasions during the recent IPL when the bails weren't dislodged despite being hit, and there have been five such instances in this World Cup already.
WORLD CUP SCHEDULEThe latest was on Sunday when David Warner dragged a delivery from
Jasprit Bumrah onto the stumps, but he survived because the bails weren't disturbed.
Here are the four other instances:
ADIL RASHID TO QUINTON DE KOCK: De Kock not only survived but earned four runs while attempting a reverse sweep. The ball flicked de Kock's bat and hit the outside of the leg stump, but the bails didn't fall and the ball ran away to the boundary.
TRENT BOULT TO DIMUTH KARUNARATNE: Karunaratne almost chopped on while trying to run down a ball with little width towards third man. The ball even brushed the stumps, but the bails refused to move from its original position.
MITCHELL STARC TO CHRIS GAYLE: The umpire gave Gayle out caught behind after hearing a definite noise on ball passing bat, but the West Indian reviewed the decision. On review, it was found that the noise was courtesy the ball brushing off stump rather than Gayle's bat.
BEN STOKES TO MOHAMMAD SAIFUDDIN: Saifuddin underedged a ball from Stokes down the leg side onto the stumps, but the bails remained intact.
