... THE RUN CHASE ...
Right then, India Women have posted a good total on the board and their bowlers will like to use the wind to their advantage to defend this total and confirm their semi-final spot. Ireland Women know that chasing this will not be an easy task, but they have some quality batters and if they play well, they can get over the line here and get their first win of the tournament. Let's see how the chase unfolds.
Laura Delany is up for a quick-chat. She says that the conditions were tricky to assess at first. Adds that there might be some turn on offer but other than that it looks good. Informs that they will try to make the most of the wind just like India Women. Mentions that they will certainly come out with an intent to get over the line here.
It was tricky to start off. Was pretty tricky with that left-hand, right-hand combination. There's a bit of a turn on offer. Need to play with the wind, that's what India did. The top batters have batted with intent in the last few games, the middle order needs to back them today.
Ireland Women should be satisfied with their bowling effort, but their woes in the field continued which made a huge difference in the total. Although they took a couple of good catches, overall they were ordinary and dropped a few too many chances. And when you give this many chances to a quality batter like , Smriti Mandhana, you would always get punished. Orla Prendergast was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets while their skipper, Laura Delany also picked up three scalps as well. Now, it is time for their batters to step up if they want to cause an upset.
India Women got off to slow but steady start. Both openers tried to focus more on not losing a wicket and they ended up scoring just 42 runs in the Powerplay. Smriti Mandhana then tried to attack and luck was on her side as she got a few lives due to some poor fielding from the Irish. Shafali Verma got out trying to up the ante after putting up a 62-run opening stand. Harmanpreet Kaur struggled on this wicket and got dismissed after eating up a few too many balls and not scoring much and then Richa Ghosh followed her and lost her wicket for the first time in this tournament. However, Smriti Mandhana held one end and after getting to her fifty, she went full attacking and smashed the bowlers all around the park. She ended up scoring 87 runs off just 56 balls and in the end a quick-fire knock form Jemimah Rodrigues got them past the 150-run mark to give their bowlers plenty to play with.
A good contest with bat and ball comes to an end! India Women have managed to get past the 150-run mark, but they know that they could have got more. Ireland Women will think that they let this get away from them as they had their moments to restrict India Women to lower total than this but could not capitalise on them.
