... THE RUN CHASE ...
Right then, England Women have got runs on the board in this crucial game and it is always a good thing. This is the last game of the group stage and it is a shootout between these two sides because after all the calculations, it is confirmed that South Africa Women have qualified for the semi-final from this group and only one spot remains now. The Windies will have to give their all here while England Women have enough quality to stop them. A huge run chase is coming up shortly. Whose side are you on?
Afy Fletcher is up for a chat. She says that she was trying to keep it simple and kept her lengths tight. She continues that her team needs to keep it simple while batting as well. Ends up saying they need to be calm and composed to chase the score down.
West Indies Women, on the other hand, will be a bit disappointed because they were excellent in the Powerplay but allowed England Women to take control of the game. Hayley Matthews also missed a trick as she introduced her strike bowler, Karishma Ramharack in the 14th over but in reality, she should have come much earlier. Deandra Dottin was fantastic in the field taking a couple of good catches and forcing a fine run out as well, but they did miss quite a few chances as well. Afy Fletcher was the pick of the bowlers picking up 3 wickets and giving away just 21 runs. Dottin and Matthews chipped in with one each.
England Women took their time to adjust to the conditions of Dubai as this was their first game of the tournament in this stadium. It wasn't a great Powerplay and they lost more than one wicket in that phase for the first time in this World Cup. Both the openers got starts but failed to convert it as they found themselves in a difficult situation. The rescue act began with Nat Sciver-Brunt and skipper Heather Knight joining hands at the crease. They decided to keep rotating the strike and not play too many dot balls. However, just when things were looking good, Knight had to leave the field due to an injury after scoring 21 off just 13 balls and adding 46 runs along with her partner. The pressure then came on Nat Sciver-Brunt who flourished with a brilliant half-century taking them over the 140-run mark.
A finish with a flurry for England Women! Nat Sciver-Brunt has once again produced an amazing knock when her team needed it the most.
