England vs South Africa Highlights, Women's T20 World Cup 2024: England Women win by 7 wickets

Tonight's clash at Sharjah could be pivotal for both England and South Africa in this group stage. With both teams coming off dominant wins—England beating Bangladesh by 21 runs with a spin-heavy attack and South Africa crushing West Indies by 10 wickets—the stakes are high. The slow and low Sharjah pitch, along with a sluggish outfield, will make runs hard to come by, adding to the challenge for both sides. The winner of this game will take a significant step toward securing a spot in the semi-finals. Stay tuned for live updates and follow the action on TimesofIndia.com.

Marizanne Kapp to Alice Capsey, DROPPED! A huge moment in this game! Hard length and around off, Alice Capsey slices it aerially towards point, Anneke Bosch dives forward but spills it out just as she hit the ground. Kapp does not look happy with that effort. However, it is still a maiden-wicket over, Kapp's second maiden of this game. She also becomes the first South African to bowl a maiden-wicket in the Women's T20 World Cup.

Marizanne Kapp to Maia Bouchier, OUT! LBW! Marizanne Kapp draws first blood! This was coming as Maia Bouchier was really struggling out here. This is pitched up and around middle, shaping in, Maia Bouchier steps across to swipe it across the line but misses and gets hit on the pads. There is a huge appeal for LBW, and the finger goes up. Kapp is pumped up here but has to wait as Bouchier takes the review. UltraEdge confirms no bat involved and Ball Tracking shows two reds and that wickets is umpire's call. The on-field call of Out remains. England Women retains the review but lose Maia Bouchier who walks back for 8 off 20. She would not be proud of that knock!

... THE RUN CHASE ...

20:53 (IST) Oct 07

A late cameo from Annerie Dercksen helped South Africa cross the 120-run mark, a total no team has yet achieved on this ground in the competition. Despite the tricky surface and a disciplined Proteas bowling attack, England will be confident heading into the chase with their strong batting lineup. However, they’ll need to start well and carefully navigate the slowness of the pitch, knowing this won't be a straightforward pursuit. Chase coming to you in a bit!

20:53 (IST) Oct 07

Sarah Glenn is down for a quick chat! She says that it was fun to be out there. Adds that they played here in the last game and got accustomed to the conditions. Mentions that Sophie Ecclestone is great off the field with her communication and she knows what to bowl according to the conditions. Ends by saying that they need to do the basics right, play straight and they have taken some learnings from the last game.

20:50 (IST) Oct 07

With spinners operating from both ends, England Women successfully tightened the screws, stemming the scoring rate and building pressure on Laura Wolvaardt and Anneke Bosch which led to the dismissal of Bosch breaking the 40 runs stand. Although England let a few more opportunities slip, they made sure those misses didn’t come back to haunt them, keeping the scoring well in check. Much like in their previous match, England's spinners worked in tandem, consistently taking wickets and preventing any new batter from settling in. This included the prized scalp of Marizanne Kapp, who was just beginning to look dangerous before England struck again.

20:48 (IST) Oct 07

After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits got off to a good start, scoring at a brisk pace. A few fielding lapses from England allowed the opening partnership to flourish. However, in a bid to capitalize on the final over of the Powerplay, South Africa Women lost Tazmin, with Linsey Smith delivering the crucial breakthrough England had been seeking.

20:47 (IST) Oct 07

A quickfire 20 off 11 from Annerie Dercksen towards the end helped South Africa Women push their total to 124/6, but England Women will be pleased with how they fought back. After it initially looked like South Africa were on track for a much bigger score, England’s disciplined bowling turned the tide, keeping the total within reach.
