... THE RUN CHASE ...

A late cameo from Annerie Dercksen helped South Africa cross the 120-run mark, a total no team has yet achieved on this ground in the competition. Despite the tricky surface and a disciplined Proteas bowling attack, England will be confident heading into the chase with their strong batting lineup. However, they’ll need to start well and carefully navigate the slowness of the pitch, knowing this won't be a straightforward pursuit. Chase coming to you in a bit!

Mentions that Sophie Ecclestone is great off the field with her communication and she knows what to bowl according to the conditions. With spinners operating from both ends, England Women successfully tightened the screws, stemming the scoring rate and building pressure on Laura Wolvaardt and Anneke Bosch which led to the dismissal of Bosch breaking the 40 runs stand. Although England let a few more opportunities slip, they made sure those misses didn’t come back to haunt them, keeping the scoring well in check. Much like in their previous match, England's spinners worked in tandem, consistently taking wickets and preventing any new batter from settling in. This included the prized scalp of Marizanne Kapp, who was just beginning to look dangerous before England struck again.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits got off to a good start, scoring at a brisk pace. A few fielding lapses from England allowed the opening partnership to flourish. However, in a bid to capitalize on the final over of the Powerplay, South Africa Women lost Tazmin, with Linsey Smith delivering the crucial breakthrough England had been seeking.

A quickfire 20 off 11 from Annerie Dercksen towards the end helped South Africa Women push their total to 124/6, but England Women will be pleased with how they fought back. After it initially looked like South Africa were on track for a much bigger score, England’s disciplined bowling turned the tide, keeping the total within reach.
