NEW DELHI: India's impressive run in men's volleyball at the Asian Games came to an end after a quarterfinal loss to Japan on Sunday in Hangzhou, China.
Japan secured their spot in the semifinals by defeating India in straight sets, with scores of 25-16, 25-18, and 25-17.
Japan, ranked No. 1 in Asia, proved to be a formidable challenge for the Indian team. They established their dominance early in the opening set, taking a commanding 10-6 lead. Japan continued to assert their command and extended their lead to 15-8. They ultimately closed out the first game with a convincing 25-16 victory.
The second set followed a similar pattern, with India making efforts to stay competitive but Japan maintaining control. Japan secured the second set with a 25-18 win.
India entered the third set facing a do-or-die situation, needing a victory to keep their hopes alive. The teams were evenly matched, with the score tied at 10-all. However, Japan elevated their game and won three consecutive points to take a commanding lead.
India took a timeout in hopes of disrupting Japan's rhythm and changing the course of the game. Despite their efforts, Japan extended their lead to five points at 19-14 and ultimately sealed the match with a 3-0 victory.
With this defeat, the Indian men's volleyball team's hopes of winning a medal at the Asian Games came to an end. Although their journey concluded on a slightly disappointing note, their performance in the tournament showcased their talent and potential.
