Chaitra Amavasya 2026: Date, time, rituals and significance
Amavasya is one of the most powerful day when people take holy bath in ganga river and other sacred rivers. The day is dedicated to perform pitru puja, pitru tarpan and shradh rituals. On this day, devotees worship ancestors. In the Ganga River, people take holy baths. The sign of Pisces is where the sun is currently transiting. This is one of the most potent days for ancestral benefits, spiritual elevation, and karmic clearing. By performing rituals associated with pitru and departed souls, people can also offer prayers to their ancestors.
1. One must take bath in any sacred river.
2. People wo have pitru dosha, should perform pitru puja on this day.
3. People are advised to invite brahmin or priest at home and feed them sattvik food.
4. It is not considered auspicious to purchase new clothes, foot wear and jewellery.
5. People should not start new business venture, join new job and sign any business deal.
6. Girha pravesh, mundan, hair cut should be avoided on this day.
7. People should feed ants, cows, and dogs on this day.
8. It is believed that ancestors reside in the peepal tree so people should take a water in a vessel, add milk and sugar power in that then offer this water to the tree.
9. People can get rid of the shani dosha if they worship peepal tree by lighting a mustard oil diya beneath the tree.
10. The day is considered auspicious for doing charity and donation.
11. People who are suffering from kaal sarpa dosha can perform puja on this day.
