19 college girls suspended for ragging in Maharashtra
NAGPUR: Government Ayurveda College and Hospital, Nagpur, expelled 19 second-year students from the hostel for three months after an anti-ragging committee probe found them guilty of ragging juniors. They will be able to attend classes.
Written undertakings were taken from the 19, warning that any repetition would invite stricter punishment, including suspension from the college for 6 months and even permanent expulsion.
The probe was prompted by an anonymous complaint to the college brass, alleging harassment of first-year students for 20 days. “We are living in an atmosphere of fear. Ragging continues through the night, and hostel staff don’t pay heed,” the complaint stated.
The college launched an inquiry on Dec 18 and recorded statements of students.
