Javaa Movie Review {2.5/5}: Critic Review of Javaa by Times of India

Five individuals are trapped in a farmhouse due to different reasons. What happens when they realize that something is amiss? There's also a cop who ends up witnessing the proceedings helplessly. But it falters as it seems technically shoddy at times. Add to this, the whole soul of a thriller is diluted when we see characters explaining what they are doing at each step instead of just letting the viewers understand it.Javaa is a thriller that is a genre that is quite popular with makers today. But it isn't the formulaic film with frights. Instead, it hopes to induce a little introspection and philosophy in the minds of the audience, something that Last Bus did two years ago. A rich socialite wife, a real estate agent, an aged housekeeper, a maintenance worker and a mysterious stranger are stranded in a farmhouse. When they find the house door shut in the evening, they end up in the living room area, which is the only space with lights on. They dial an emergency number, which is of a cop and he gets to witness the goings on helplessly on a CCTV camera. Supernatural elements are also added to the story midway. The concept of Javaa is interesting; where it falters is in its narrative. There are cliches and the kind of lines being used seem rather trite when the film in itself sets out to be novel. While there are some good actors part of the ensemble, they way the story unfolds gets slow and, at times, predictable. One also hoped the background for this narrative was a little more charged up. The film does have some interesting moments, but can those few moments alone suffice? Watch it and judge for yourselves.
