Motorola to launch Moto Z series with MotoMods on June 9?
NEW DELHI: Motorola is reportedly all set to launch its new flagship series, to be called Moto Z. The Lenovo-owned company is said to be replacing its Moto X series with the new Moto Z. The company is expected to launch the very first smartphones in this series -- Moto Z and Moto Z Play -- at Lenovo Tech World show in San Francisco on June 9.
The new Z series of Moto phones might come with modular backplates called MotoMods, also known as Amps.
A new image leaked by reporter Evan Blass (better known by his Twitter handle - @evleaks) features three of these MotoMods that Motorola might launch with its Moto Z series. The modular backplates or MotoMods are aimed at making phones more functional. These may include battery, lens, stereo speakers or pico projector modules.
Motorola will reportedly be launching at least six different modules with the upcoming Moto Z series.
The two devices, code-named Vertex and Vector Thin, were earlier rumoured to be forming the next-generation Moto X and Moto X Play. However, with Motorola ditching the X series, both the devices are now expected to come under Moto Z series.
The higher-end Moto Z is expected to be powered by a Snapdragon 820 processor, paired with 3GB/4GB of RAM and 32GB of on-board memory. The smartphone is rumoured to sport a 16MP rear-camera (with both phase detection and laser-assisted autofocus), and have a Quad HD display with 1440 x 1560 pixels resolution.
As far as the Moto Z Play is concerned, it is speculated to have Full HD display with 1080x1920 pixels resolution, run on Snapdragon 625 CPU coupled with 2GB/3GB RAM and 16GB/32GB of in-built storage. The primary camera is likely to be a 13MP unit with laser autofocus.
