Big B's thumbs up for Jaya's lakshya
Amitabh Bachchan is the first one toadmit that his innings in politics was a far cry from his success in Bollywood. And if the Big B is worried about his better half stepping into, he sure isn''t showing it. ForJaya Bachchan is a Samajwadi Party candidate for the Rajya Sabha and theBachchans are awaiting the results, to be announced after the Upper Houseelection on June 28. "This is the third time that Jaya has beenoffered the honour, and this time she decided to accept it," says Bachchan."There was no special reason for her to accept the nomination this time, butit''s her decision and I respect it. We''ve always had an open and freeunderstanding among us."Bachchan''s own tryst with politics wasn''t ahappy one and he''s often been quoted as saying that politics is not his cup oftea. "I haven''t had a very good experience with politics. Even though Jaya wouldbe involved, I wouldn''t get back into politics," says Bachchan emphatically. Butif you think that shouldn''t stop him from offering any words of wisdom to her, think again. "Not really," he says and shakes his head. "She''s intelligentenough." While politics is discussed "as much as any other subject"at the Bachchans'' dining table, there are no specific issues that find a specialmention. Jaya has said that her top priority would be the youth, literacy forwomen and care for mentally and physically challenged children. "She is affectedby what''s happening around her," explains her husband. "She thinks thatParliament is the right forum for getting more involved."
