It is a combination of 19 Buddhist caves which once served as monasteries. You can also see prayer halls built for Buddhist monks. Years before the city of Mumbai became India’s financial hub, these caves were centres of meditation and learning. The best part of Mahakali Caves is that these look more raw than the famous Kanheri and Elephanta Caves. Every rock-cut cell here tells a story.
