A national flag represents the whole country. Being a powerful visual representative of any nation, these flags not only talk about the identity, it also represents the history and values. There are over 190 countries on the global map, each flag relies on colours, or abstract emblems; some feature animals, mythical creatures and birds which represent the strength of the nation.

Mexico – The Golden Eagle

Mexico has the most iconic animal-bearing national flags in the world. It is centred around a golden eagle sitting on a cactus, holding a snake in its beak and talon. This image comes from an ancient Aztec legend where the eagle is strength and the snake represents new beginnings.

Albania – The Double-Headed Eagle

Albania’s national flag is also quite interesting, featuring a black double-headed eagle, which is a symbol with deep roots in Byzantine history. The eagle represents bravery, and sovereignty. It’s two heads are interpreted as watching both east and west.

Egypt has a tricolour flag which also features the Eagle of Saladin right in the middle. This powerful bird is symbolic of independence. It is named after the Muslim leader Saladin.
