ChampaTree Art Gallery presents Ravi Chunchula’s meditative new solo at Bikaner House

ChampaTree Art Gallery presents Ravi Chunchula’s meditative new solo at Bikaner House
In a city that rarely pauses, where traffic, timelines, and tempers move in perpetual acceleration, an unusual stillness has descended on the high-ceilinged halls of Bikaner House. Beginning March 6, ChampaTree Art Gallery presents A Man Arranged, a solo exhibition by Hyderabad-based artist Ravi Chunchula, offering Delhi audiences an opportunity to encounter a body of work that asks a deceptively simple question: how does a person become who they are?It is a question that unfolds quietly across Chunchula’s paintings. Rather than dramatic narratives or flamboyant gestures, the works dwell in subtler territories- the spaces between routine and reflection, between environment and identity. Bikaner House has long held a certain cultural gravitas within Delhi’s arts calendar, becoming one of the capital’s engaging cultural venues, where architecture, contemporary art, and public discourse intersect. It is within this context that ChampaTree Art Gallery’s latest exhibition situates itself, arriving at a significant moment as the gallery celebrates a decade of nurturing contemporary artistic voices.
The presentation of Ravi Chunchula’s work, therefore, feels particularly fitting- inviting viewers not merely to see paintings but to inhabit a contemplative pause within the city’s otherwise restless cultural rhythm.
“As ChampaTree Art Gallery completes a decade, Ravi Chunchula’s A Man Arranged felt like a deeply meaningful exhibition to present at this moment, as we are all negotiating identity and belonging within rapidly changing environments. Over the past ten years, ChampaTree has sought to champion artists whose practices encourage reflection, and Ravi’s quiet, thoughtful visual language embodies that spirit beautifully,” share Archana Bahl Sapra & Pooja Bahri, Founder Partners, ChampaTree Art Gallery.

Chunchula’s practice centres on the human figure, but not in the conventional portrait sense. The individuals who inhabit his canvases are not identifiable personalities; rather, they appear as quiet presences, absorbed within the environments they occupy. “Sardhubaatu is about the quiet process of becoming—how we are constantly shaped by what we see, where we stand, and who we are surrounded by. These works are less about telling a story and more about holding a moment where things feel temporarily aligned, even if imperfect,” says the artist. The exhibition’s opening evening briefly expanded beyond the painted image with a live theatre intervention - Where Is My Mind?, conceived by theatre-maker Rohit Chauhan and ensemble.Through intuitive movement and visual poetry, this parallel performance, momentarily, activated some of the ideas embedded within the works- questions of influence, belonging, and collective behaviour. But just as quickly, A Man Arranged offers something that feels increasingly rare: the invitation to slow down. In an era where much contemporary culture competes for attention through scale and immediacy, Chunchula’s paintings operate differently. They ask for patience. They reward quiet looking. For those seeking a cultural pause in the middle of Delhi’s fast-moving season, this exhibition promises precisely that: an encounter with art that does not demand urgency, but offers reflection. And sometimes, in a city that rarely stops moving, reflection may be the most radical experience of all. A Man Arranged, Solo exhibition by Ravi Chunchula Presented by ChampaTree Art Gallery will be on till 14th March 2026 at the Main Hall of Bikaner House, New Delhi.
