A wedding cake tree has been planted to commemorate the marriage of Britain's Prince William and Princess Catherine.
Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall met with members of the Women's Institute organisation yesterday (03.05.11) to plant the unique tree in the grounds of St. Mary's Church in Tetbury, Gloucestershire following the royal couple's April 29 nuptials.Fixing the tree into the ground, Camilla - the wife of heirto the British throne Prince Charles - told assembled guests: "It was absolutelywonderful, very, very special.I hope this tree will remind everybodyin Tetbury of a wonderful and special day. I am thrilled to be able to plantit."The Cornus Contraversa plant - which has been dubbed the'Wedding Cake Tree' in recognition of its tiered horizontal branches and thewhite flowers that bloom in the summer months - was donated to the churchyard bymembers of the Tetbury Women's Institute.Chris Gibson, president ofthe organisation, said: "We are very happy to have donated a lovely tree to thetown to mark such a lovely occasion. Friday was a realcelebration."This wasn't the first time William and Catherine - nowknown as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge - have been immortalised in the plantworld.Prior to their wedding, the couple had a pair of roses namedafter them and planted in Windsor Great Royal Park.
