As
Navratri begins today, Pune is already drumming up the energy for a week filled with rhythm and dance. Navratri isn’t just about the music and the moves, but also about dressing up, both traditional and chic. Whether it’s a sparkling chaniya choli or a neatly embroidered Kediyu, the outfits steal the limelight. And Punekars, are choosing to rent outfits rather than buy new ones for these festivities.
Across the city, costume rental shops are buzzing with enquiries and last-minute rush to keep dresses ready. “As soon as Ganpati ends, the enquiries begin,” says Rahul Arkule, owner of Arkule Costumes, who has been in the business for nearly a decade. Sujata Dresses in Kasba Peth offers a variety of traditional mirrorwork sets along with contemporary drapes with a twist, pulling a steady crowd every season.

The suburbs like Aundh and Wakad, too, share the festive fever. Dhrriti Collection has already reserved half of its 400 costumes. Another shop, NK Navratri Rental Dresses, managed by Nishita and Kiran Sagar, has become a familiar stop for families who return every year.
“People prefer renting because they don’t want to repeat the same outfit,” explains Nishita.
These stores have become popular for their wide range of outfits, catering to everyone from toddlers to adults. Each outfit is cleaned and kept ready for the performance. Together, these rental shops keep Pune twirling through Navratri, making it easy for everyone to step into tradition.
