Sins humans commit and the hells (naraka) they go to based on birth month (Garuda Purana inspired)

As humans, we commit a lot of known and unknown sins in our life span. As per Garuda Purana, one of the most sacred texts in Hinduism, a soul’s journey is noted in detail after death and it has to go through their own karma. The text describes several types of Narakas (hell realms), which offer spiritual guidance on living a righteous life. As per Garuda Purana, the soul goes on a journey after death based on the karma it created.

Each sin and wrongdoing is linked to a particular Naraka or hell which is a symbolic realm where the soul is purified through consequences. While these interpretations are symbolic, not literal, the real teaching of the Garuda Purana is simple:

Every action has a karmic effect.
No hell is permanent.
Purification leads to liberation.

A look at month-wise interpretation aligning birth-month personality tendencies with the sins.

2/13

January: Sin of harsh speech, humiliating, causing emotional sufferings to others

Hell: Raurava Naraka
Punishment: Tortured by serpent-like beings called rurus, representing the pain one inflicted in life.

January-born individuals are leaders but are also quite rude and blunt in their speech; they have the tendency of hurting people with their harsh truth. Garuda Purana says the soul experiences Raurava—it is a hell for people who cause emotional suffering to others.

3/13

February: Sin of neglecting duties, ignoring responsibilities

Hell: Prayushita Naraka
Punishment: The soul is surrounded by crying spirits. They mirror the suffering they caused to others.

February-born souls may face Prayushita naraka for ignoring their responsibilities. In Garuda Purana, people who abandon responsibilities or neglect their duties go to this particular hell.

4/13

March: Sin of self-indulgence, excess desires, addictions

Hell: Tamisra Naraka
Punishment: The sinner is put into total darkness, starved, and terrified.

March-born people are sensitive beings but their sin is associated with excess desire and addictions. Tamisra is the hell for over-indulgence and consuming more than one needs.

5/13

April: Sin of anger, short temper

Hell: Krodhana/Krodha Naraka
Punishment: The sinner in this hell is trapped, bound and suffocated. It reflects how they suppressed others.

The Garuda Purana describes this realm for those who let anger dominate their actions. So keep a check.

6/13

May: Sin of greed, taking unfair advantage

Hell: Raurava & Maharaurava Naraka
Punishment: Tormented by fierce creatures created from the pain of the sinner.

May-borns are security-driven but can be greedy when it comes to money and wealth. Their soul goes into these hells which are reserved for people clinging excessively to material gain.

7/13

June: Sin of deceit, manipulation

Hell: Raurava Naraka
Punishment: The soul is trapped and suffocated.

Garuda Purana says that those who lie to others, manipulate or spread misinformation
go to this hell.

8/13

July: Sin of emotional manipulation, controlling others

Hell: Rodhaka Naraka
Punishment: The soul is trapped and suffocated

Playing victim and controlling others through emotions is another sin that humans commit. This hell is especially designed for those who block others’ growth or restrict their freedom. July-born individuals, when insecure, may unknowingly do this.

9/13

August: Sin of ego, arrogance, belittling others

Hell: Shukara Naraka
Punishment: Sinners are thrown into filth and dirt to destroy their ego

In this Garuda Purana hell, souls who become excessively egoistic and proud and treat others as inferior are shown the light by being thrown into filth.

10/13

September: Sin of over-criticism, judging people

Hell: Sandansa Naraka
Punishment: As per Garuna Purana, sinner’s tongue and body parts are pierced with hot iron pliers

Those who emotionally pierce others hearts with criticism and harsh words are assigned this hell. September souls can unknowingly hurt loved ones.

11/13

October: Sin of betrayal, injustice, cheating

Hell: Vaitarani Naraka
Punishment: The sinner has to cross a river of blood, pus, and beasts

This is a legendary river hell! It is the punishment assigned for those who cheat and betray their loved ones. October-borns strive for balance, but karmic downfall begins when they cross the line and turn disloyal.

12/13

November: Sin of jealousy, obsession, possessiveness, controlling behavior

Hell: Avici Naraka
Punishment: The sinner keeps falling into a pit of fire

This one is considered one of the harshest hells! Avici is the hell designed for those consumed by intense hatred or obsession and possessiveness. November souls have deep emotional intensity, they must stay alert.

13/13

December: Sin of false superiority, lust. judging others, reckless moral preaching

Hell: Andhakupa NarakaPunishment: The sinner is thrown into a deep pit crowded with terrifying creatures

Souls who preach righteousness but don’t follow it themselves are thrown into this hell pit. December-born people are natural philosophers and sometimes forget to practice humility.
